From talking to locals there isn't a huge choice of venues in Launceston so we headed down to the Seaport where there are a few choices. We chose Mud Bar. There is a lack of vegetarian options, when we asked the staff they went to get a special menu and as she was rummaging around for it we joked they were blowing off the cobwebs. The staff were nice enough but the food was pretty average and not great value for money.

Very nicely presented meals, great modern setting and atmosphere, well priced considering. Very good range of beers. But my meal of lamb ribs was a bit poor, pretty much no edible meat, all fat and oily. Disappointing, but everyone else's meals were great, and previous visits have been good.

Interesting modern style very spacious yet intimate. The owner and staff were great and the seemed to effortlessly get everything right, it made for a great experience.
They seemed genuinely interested in helping us to decide from the menu and the drinks list.
Menue selections were very interesting, thoughtful and tasty, food ranged from good to excellent, but you can be guided by the written descriptions in the menu, some very basic traditional items (for example beautifully cooked Agrade steaks) through to cutting edge, (like carrot & scallop soup) all done well. You won't be disappointed , these owners have had decades of experience in top class establishments and are still creative and passionate enough to make sure expectations are met.
The wine, beer & cider lists are extensive and very appealing, the staff really know their stuff , specially about local tasmanian wines, plenty of quality offerings to try and reasonably priced for what they are some cheap & cheerful and some top flight,
Overall a really encouraging and delightful experience and pretty reasonably priced for what was presented, I'll be looking forward to going back.

My partner and I came for dinner for a special occasion recently and just found the whole experience quite average.
The wait staff were so very disinterested and unfriendly which is never a great start.
I had the confit chicken which was inedible.. It just tasted old and the meat was very gritty. Far from an enjoyable eating experience.

This was the third time we've eaten at Mud on visits to Launceston and thought the quality was, again, very good. The place has an upmarket, contemporary look and the food is tasty, well cooked and nicely presented. It's not particularly cheap, and like similar restaurants in Launceston, they like their annoying add ons (eg if you're charging almost $40 for a steak, why bother charging an extra $1.50 for beef jus?) but overall I think it's worth the money.
