We were on holiday in Tasmania and on our last night we wanted to eat Italian. How lucky then that Mud was directly below where we were staying. It was a Sunday night and quite a few people were dining. We were met with warm hospitality and in no time we were shown to our table. We chose the Pan fried gnocchi, slow braised lamb & mushroom with parmesan and fish of the day which was seared John Dory with a sauce with whole mussels and prawns.......both of which were cooked to perfection. The side dish of beans and broccolini that we ordered was beautifully prepared with just the right amount of crunch. The waiting staff were attentive and prompt and because you can view the kitchen, all was running smoothly. We're so glad we found Mud and would certainly recommend to those who appreciate good food.

It lacks ambience and the decore is quite sterile. The service was okay, the wine list was not too bad. We didn't stay for a meal.

Modern comfortable bar. Great for Friday night drinks. I have not tried the food for a couple of years, but previously it was always excellent and copious amounts..

House guests at Peppers. Tried the all day 'bar menu' a few nights ago with our drinks - the battered fish bits and calamari were done to perfection - light crunchy / crispy batter, seafood moist and tender, with creamy, subtly zingy alioli to dip with...very nice indeed. However, as this is our last night in Launceston, we decided to 'dine in' at the Mud. Both the steak and seafood dishes we ordered were in no doubt the freshest of product as the taste and texture was superb and they were both cooked perfectly and as requested.
Negatives: despite being a Sunday and very quiet in the restaurant, the wait staff did not seem too attentive and actually required my partner to go up and request menu for desert. Also the dress standards of some staff I would not consider in keeping with professional / customary standards. Like one other comment - difficult to tell between staff and customer. Both the young women who served us were pleasant enough for sure, but neither enquired as to whether we as the customers, enjoyed our meal.
Secondly the tiramisu was very disappointing - basically tasteless and textureless - left half of it on the plate. Now that's sad when you can't even push through desert!!!
Thirdly, when we mentioned this to the waitress, she made no comment whatsoever, leaving us quite put out considering it was just under $30.00 for the two of us.
Desert and wait services disappointing and detracted from the super main course and lovely venue/atmosphere.
Would think twice about returning
