Parklane Motel
Ranked #29 of 30 Hotels in Launceston
Reviewed June 13, 2011

We booked this hotel sight unseen and felt quite disappointed when we arrived.
Although the location is fantastic the property needs significant investment and more discerning and engaged management to bring it up to the aesthetic and functional expectations of guests. Although we stayed in Launceston during a busy time of the year the hotel had loads of vacancies and was very quiet..

The room we booked was comfortable and we all slept well. However there was a very stale smell in the room which was off-putting. Most of the outside doors we covered in a film of dust and the grounds were depressing. The bathroom was functional but it was hard to adjust the taps. It was good to be able to make your own tea and coffee and we were pleased that there was a small table in the room.

I probably wouldn't stay here again because for not much more money you can stay somewhere much better and more attractive. Unfortunately I feel that Park-lane needs an over haul of its facilities and sound management to get it into shape.

If you are on a tight budget and want to be somewhere central then Parklane will be fine, Across the road is a great park with play facilities for kids and some monkeys, you will also find the design museum in the park which has a great assortment of gifts to buy by local artists.

We (two couples) stayed here for one night on our way to Cradle Mountain. We booked for price, convenience of a two-room unit with kitchenette, and central location. We weren't expecting luxury and we weren't disappointed. Staff were very friendly and the room (at the back of the motel) was quiet. It does have quite a steep entrance, which might be a problem if you're older and are not driving.

No hot water out of shower taps, had to wash my hair under the bath taps and even then only got one extreme or the either, too hot or too cold. Check out was 10am yet housekeeping barged through our door at 8.50am. No do not disturb sign to place on door to prevent this from happening. The folder with menus etc was extremely dusty. No basics like hairdryer etc. Paid a lot less in same location previously and received a lot more.
Tried to tell reception lady about the issues and couldn't really care less what we thought. Would not recommend.

shower dripped continually; north facing rooms with no means of cooling, not even a fan; needed window open to cool room but right on a busy road meant constant noise & fumes; road traffic with trucks didn't stop all night, it must have been the main traffic route for trucks; broken latch on window, so couldn't close window properly against traffic noise; beds were short & narrow; receptionist was bad mannered and barely hospitable; if you are desperate for a budget room, close to city and you can sleep anywhere then fine, but even then there are budget accommodations only a block away .. this is the type of hotel run by someone who has probably rarely stayed in a hotel ..

My husband, myself and a friend stayed at this establishment and extended our stay there in preference to moving on to other accommodation. We had a two bedroom unit which was spotlessly clean, roomy, serviced daily and very reasonably priced. Parking was easy and close to the unit. I had originally booked this accommodation on the forward trip to Launceston and cancelled because I had read a poor review however, on speaking with the owner of the accommodation I discovered there was another side to the review writer's story. We will return to Tasmania in another few months and we will definitely book our accommodation at the Parklane Motel.
