We stayed 3 nights in this house and enjoyed every minute of it. The rooms, well adorned with period decor and the bed, ooooh, extremely comfortable, come with a nice little pantry. The bathroom have a shower. Fresh fruits are provided everyday. The owner was very friendly. Would highly recommend the place if one is interested in staying in a heritage house in Launceston.

This was one of the highlights of our recent visit to Tasmania! This heritage listed property is not to be missed. I absolutely agree with Paddys111 comment, "Don't bother looking for anywhere else - STAY HERE!". We stayed 3 nights and were very glad we did. We chose it because my wife is a heritage consultant, knows the house from books and wanted to experience it at first hand.

We were given room no. 3 on the ground floor. It was VAST! There was a small kitchenette in a cupboard and an en-suite was tucked away in a corner of what must have been one of the principal rooms of this 2 storey house. There is easily accessible off-street parking and self-service laundry is available for $10.00 a load with detergent and dryer (30 minutes) included. A Hills hoist is located in the parking area.

Kilmarnock House is located on Elphin Road in East Launceston. A shopping centre with a large Coles supermarket is less than 5 minutes' drive away. We will certainly stay here the next time we visit Launceston.

Room Tip: Ask for Room 3.

Check in was easy and the owner was friendly and very helpful. The rooms aren't huge, but they're cozy and well furnished, not to mention extremely clean and well equipped. We stayed 3 nights, clean towels, fresh flowers and the bin was emptied each day. Would we stay again ? Absolutely !

I travelled to Launceston in November 2011 and stayed at Kilmarnock House for 3 nights which I chose because being addicted to all things old and as the reason for my visit to Tasmania was to see heritage buildings and gardens, this seemed the ideal place to begin - I wasn't disappointed. For those who like all things modern and soul-less then this isn't the place for you! However, if you appreciate history, this is a beautiful heritage home which has been restored and tastefully decorated sympathetically to the period when it was built whilst discretely incorporating modern amenities. Libby the owner is a lovely lady and most helpful. I had a very comfy stay, everything was very clean. I hope to stay here again when I next visit Launceston.

Room Tip: Rooms at the rear are quieter - there is a lovely "honeymoon" style suite upstairs at the rear complete with separate bathroom. Bedrooms upstairs at front of Kilmarnock, have great view and lovely bay windows. All rooms have something appealing, are spacious with high ceilings.

We spent only one night, in unit 9 (one of the honeymoon suites). Our stay was regrettably brief, as we arrived at dusk, had an early flight the next morning and consequently missed out on breakfast so I cannot comment on that.

The house is a lovely heritage place and is recommended for anyone who wants the ambience of an old Edwardian mansion. Unfortunately we had a poor experience when checking in - the lady at reception (not the owner) being intent on ordering a pizza for dinner and determinedly ignoring our presence as we waited for some minutes while she was on the phone (a smile of recognition or saying 'sorry, I 'll be with you shortly' would have been appreciated). Our room was very nice, with a large bathroom and a bay window looking out over the car park - the only downside being the small TV with a tinny sound.

We would like to stay here again when we have more time and can enjoy this place properly.

Room Tip: The car park has only limited space, so be prepared to park in the street if you arrive late.
