We very much enjoyed riding the chairlift which runs high above Cataract Gorge giving you a wonderful view.

Cataract Gorge is a must see if you are visiting Launceston, easy access by car but not far from cbd if you need to organise other transport. Self described as a Victorian era pleasure ground. Lovely established gardens against an impressive natural backdrop. We caught the chairlift for fun which gave a nice perspective and we walked back for some pleasant exercise but chairlift both ways great value if you feel like that instead.

We scored great weather, just perfect for the chairlift which is 15 minutes one way, when you reach the other side there are a couple of eating places, some lovely short walks including the trestle bridge and plenty of places to park yourself and just relax. When you've enjoyed all on offer you just hop back on and wing your way back. It is an old style chairlift with the one safety bar across the front, we saw plenty of people of all ages including kids on it!

A visit to the Gorge is not complete without a ride on the chairlift. It gets pretty breezy, so if the weather is chilly make sure you bring a warm coat for the ride! Lovely photo opportunities.

My wife is less nimble than I and both of us are in our later years, but the staff at this attraction were great, helpful, encouraging and accommodating. Upshot is we rode the chairlift out and back and thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The staff halted the ride to let us get safely on and locked in, and off at the other end, meaning zero stress, and maximum enjoyment. Gardens are a joy to see, but that bit is a little more inaccessible, so viewed from a distance. Only concern, couldn't find any disabled parking, but struck it lucky with a near-by space.
