Very poor. No hot water, no cleaning during stay. Hostel standards at hotel prices.

Great spot walking distance to shops cafes monkeys gorges etc. Backpacker accommodation well equipped kitchen pleasant lounge Tv room. The bonus is the huge bar room pool table jukebox LOG FIRE. Rooms very small but enough. I shared with 3 females and having ensuite was murder as they stayed in shower way to long so could not get in to use loo. Best of all was Stephan the manager and his wife so much fun stayed extra two nights. Downside luggage lift to first floor only ....not suitable for disabled

I know its cheap to stay here and its budget accommodation but i was a little annoyed with this place. When we arrived it was late at night so we collected our key from a key safe and entered. The downstairs area looked really nice so we thought we had got a right deal before we found our room. We hud to lug our bags up a couple flights of stairs to find our room and then we did it was a box with a bunk bed, a wooden built in wardrobe and dresser and metal lockers. We had requested a double bed which there was, but it had a single bed above it.

Anyway it was late we didnt care and we were only staying here a night, so we made up our bed and went to use the bathroom (another box with a shower you could not stand underneath and a toilet and sink). There was no light! Its a good job i knew the person i was sharing a room with as i had to leave the door open. For anyone staying there a bit longer this could get uncomfortable.

Anyway i had the worse night sleep because the bed made a racket everytime you moved, a nearby church chimes every hour and half hour and the curtains do not cover the window. Then if you need the toilet in the middle of the night you have to climb over one another then pee in the dark as you cant turn a light on.

In the morning we went to check out and this is the first time we saw someone (an older guy working behind the desk). They didnt say hello picked up the phone dialed and started talking to someone. We just dropped our key in the box and left as we got bored standing around.

If you are looking for somewhere with clean sheets and is reasonably cheap to stay for one night then i would stay here. If you want more than that look elsewhere. We were just so dissapointed as the people we spoke to on the phone were lovely and there customer service was excellent.

The Batman has become my homebase during my hiking travel through Tasmania. The best and authentic place near town and the citypark to relax, enjoy the city and watch dvd's.
Thank you Lawrence and Jane!

Gave this a very good review based on location, and price per night. Rooms are old but have all amenities that you need for an overnight stay including coffee and tea facilities, tv and ensuite. Communal kitchen, lounge and laundry if you wish to use it. Only has about 6 car parks for whole complex so parking is a bit difficult but you can park out on the road if you ensure you put money in the metres in the morning. Room was clean. Bathroom very old and in need of refreshing but good shower pressure. Bed was very hard. Receptionist not very helpful. Appreciated the bag lift that is there. Beware....you are very close to the town clock and it rings every hour. Overall pleasant stay.

Recommended. The rooms aren't flash (i.e. a bit worn) but they are clean & relatively spacious and great value for the price. Staff were very helpful & friendly.

It is located near the main street where you can find several restaurants and bars (Launceston is quite small, so even the main street is relatively quiet on Saturday nights). The whole hotel looks old and worn out. The room is quite small (and my single room is actually with a bunker bed). For about A$60 per night, it is not really cheap, but still a bargain in Tasmania. Unlike many other hotels I stayed all over Australia, I am glad that Batman Fawkner Inn does offer free Wi-Fi internet service.
