“Beautiful building and great staff but could improve”
Reviewed April 10, 2011

When we arrived, we thought the building was lovely - old converted house with antique furniture. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and the bathrooms are spacious and we never had to wait. However the kitchens were not up to the standard of the rest of the hostel. The upstairs kitchen oven doesn't work and the fridge was disgusting - hadn't been cleared out in weeks. A food spillage wasn't cleaned up for at least 2 days - it was still there when we left. We tried to make lunch at 12.30pm one day to find the main kitchen closed - why do this at lunchtime?! Maybe employing a full-time cleaner would be better so guests can use the facilities. We became aware of bedbugs in other rooms - surely encouraging guests to use their own sleeping bags is a factor in this? Also, our bed was extremely noisy and not the most comfortable. We could also hear other guests through the thin walls at all times of day/night. Internet very expensive.

Though it had many people there, competing to use the kitchen and laundry facilities, a friendly spirit surrounded the place, so that everyone was helpful and cheerful. I nice, cosy place to stay - just like Launceston itself!

I stayed twice at this hostel prior and after my trek on the Overland.. The first in a 4-share dorm on the ground floor and the second in a private room. The hostel was not full at the moment, so it is quiet and very comfortable to sit in the lounge, reading and watching TV.

The dorm room was among the best I had stayed in.. It was fairly large and there was a old wardrobe, counterspace etc. There was ample space to lay out my stuff, though it helped that there was only 2 of us in the room.. The showers and toilets are so clean and amazing.. Absolutely loved the shower... Feels so good after that especially coming back from the Overland. ;-)

Debra and the staff are friendly and very helpful with infor as to where to eat and shop for groceries. The location of the hostel is a 10 to 15 min walk away from town and to get to Cataract Gorge, it will take at least 20 to 30 min to get there.. But to just get a good rest, that is ideal place to stay..

Great place - all fresh and new, beds stable and comfortable, interesting building and good staff. Had expected this would be really good hostel and was not disappointed on any aspect, would happily have settled in for a few days stay. The scale of 'Lonnie' is such that nothing of interest is far to walk and parking is easy. (And like that all the showers are indepedent and non gender specific).

Stayed here for a total of 3 nights in January 2010 at the start and end of a a Tassie tour. The staff were great communicating via email prior to my booking and once I checked in. Very clean rooms and bathrooms with good hot water! Staff were great with advising what to do and where to go and organising airport trasfers etc.
As a previous review stated the only (minor) issue would be the noise. I was in a room next to the kitchen and was kept awake for a while the first night although earplugs fixed that on the second night. Would definitely recommend for a great inexpensive, clean and friendly base for exploring Launceston.

I stayed here for one night with some friends before heading out to Cradle Mountain. The rooms and bathrooms were really clean and there was a great BBQ area that we used for dinner. The staff was helpful in terms of telling us where to go for food, car rental, etc. Overall, I would recommend this place - it's cheap, nice, clean, and you'll meet some cool people.
