The apartments are situated about 10 minutes by car from the CBD of Launceston. The setting is very pretty, with alpine inspired architecture and native hens roaming the grounds.

Check in is easy and parking is directly outside the individual apartments. The staff are very friendly and relaxed. Check in takes place at Archers Manor, the function/restaurant on the grounds operated by separate Management.

The apartment I stayed in was two story with very basic furnishings and "mixed" décor (the pale blue walls with salmon curtains were a bit much for me!). It has a small kitchenette and washer/dryer, which would be handy for families or long stays. While reasonably clean, the interior is looking very tired. The bed is very comfortable and the water pressure is great (although you wouldn't want to be wide or tall to fit in the shower as the cubical is small and the shower head is not adjustable up or down). My apartment did have a good hair dryer and enough towels for me.

The restaurant which is located in Archers Manor is not open for breakfast. Reception can arrange you a continental breakfast the night before if you ask.

The major downside was in my two story apartment, the only heating was on the ground floor, meaning that upstairs in my bedroom it was freezing. While the electric blanket and additional blankets I found in the cupboard helped, it was very uncomfortable to sleep. Friends with single story rooms did not find this as bad, but still cold.

The reason for the self sufficient title is that you were supplied with enough amenities for the first day only. From the on if you ran out of anything, tea, coffee, toilet paper, you needed to supply it yourself. As a business traveller with no car, this could have caused some significant issues.

Check out was a problem for us as Reception closes early and does not open again until 8.00 am. We needed to be gone long before opening to catch our flight and there did not appear to be an express or early check out system. We wound up leaving our keys in the rooms.

Room Tip: Choose a ground floor apartment to take full advantage of the heater.

We were here for a special cystic fibrosis fundraiser and thought we'd stay the night! Super friendly staff everywhere from bistro to check in and out. Wait for dinner was a little long and food not particularly great (soft chips and overcooked veggies...) but the atmosphere and surrounds very friendly and relaxed. The whole night was great with good service and the room, though basic and perhaps a little on the cold side, was comfy and spacious, clean and well equipped. Price was also quite reasonable overall. A special note to say the paraphernalia in the pub downstairs is fantastic! Definitely worth a visit/stay if you're in the area.

Love the old Tudor look of outer motel, restaurant offered great food with a relaxing environment.
Rooms of the motel may be a little dated but the quality of sleep was amazing...
Heater was deceiving, worked very well.
Motel has free washer and dryer which is a nice change.
Clean and comfortable.

This was the poorest motel we had on our trip around Tassie. My parents had stayed here 7 years before and wanted to go back because it was very good then. It's gone downhill. The rooms were old and worn, although reasonably clean. It was the only motel that didn't service the rooms at all expect for dropping fresh towels. (No bed making) The main Inn building was very run down, musty and uninviting. They had a talking parrot at reception which is fine, but without a skirt on his cage there was parrot mess and food all over the floor every time you went in there which put my mum off straight away. A simple cage skirt would have made it much more hygienic. We ate dinner at the restaurant the first night but it wasn't good. Two of our group had roast and knew it was reheated food from the day before. At $20 for roast of the day that was very unsatisfactory! They have a bar downstairs which has been done up like an old garage with racing memorabilia. Fine except it smelled like an old garage and wasn't very appealing! This place is very tired and needs a major facelift!

This was the only place near Launceston that had a 2BR apartment available. Its well located out in suburbia, is quiet and peaceful. I was a little unsettled by the condition of maintenance and cleanliness. Several lights didn't work, including the stairway light, and its clearly a long time since the carpets were steam cleaned. After an hour or two walking around in my (white) sports socks, the soles of my feet were filthy. It could only have come up off the carpet. The door onto the balcony jammed part open and in fear of breaking it if we forced it further, we closed it again. Thats a shame as the view was pleasant enough and it would have been nice to get some fresh air in. The whole apartment needed a really good hard clean and spruce up.
That aside, the location is fine in the University "Quarter" of Launceston, it was private enough, and big enough. The restaurant was fair - not exhorbitant, and the food was fine. Parking was not at the door, but close by. There are two big Colesworth supermarkets, bottlo's, and fuel outlets about 1km up the road in Mowbray, to provide supplies for catering in the apartment, in the adequate kitchen if desired. There is also a pub and plenty of food outlets, both "fast food" and cafe/restaurants.
There is a regular bus into Launceston city centre a couple of hundred metres away from the motel.
Staff were friendly enough, and don't forget to say hello to "Dude" (the cockatiel) at reception.

Room Tip: Apartments are in blocks of 2 up - 2 down, so if you don't like stairs, ask for a ground floor unit.
