“nice but expensive”
Reviewed October 6, 2012

Had dinner with friends. Food was nice but I thought the price of the food was over the top for what you got.

Service was OK.

Coffee was awful....worst I have had since I was in the UK

“Family lunch.”
Reviewed September 25, 2012

We had heard from friends that this was the place at Glenelg to eat!
It is in a nice area and it was lovely walking along the marina looking at the boats, plus the restaurant is light and bright.
The staff are very friendly and the service is good. The view shown on the advertisements is not as good as it portrays.
My husband and daughter-in-law ordered whiting; the menu stated with seasonal vegetables which consisted of a few green beans, aparagus and few sticks of carrot tied up with a bow; very artistic, but not what you expect from a top restaurant!! It only came with 2 small fillets of fish and no chips at all either!
For $32 it was ridiculous! We had to order a side of chips which of course was extra! T
The family chose not to have wine with the meal and that was received with a look that could kill and the glasses were whisked away very abruptly!Obviously that is where the profit lies!! We will not return!
Other family members did order the fish and chips which was a good serve also for $32, however, when the restaurant 3 doors down does the same for $24 with a view of the marina, it does not encourage people to go there!

“Great location”

I ate outside as the sun went down and it was really nice. Food though I thought was pretty average for the cost.

“Price matters”
Reviewed August 25, 2012

Weve been in Glenelg about 2 years and often walk past Sammy's as it hgas a great position on the corner of the marina. In all that time we didnt realise there was an upstairs and always thought it was struggling as the downstairs and outside areas were often empty!

The reason we had not tried Sammys in the past was probably proice related but we decided to give it a try for our anniversary. We were greeted and shown upstairs to a nice table with great views and the room had a nice ambience as it quickly filled, mainly it seemed with anniversary and birhday groups.

The service was very good and all in all we had a great time.

The starter however was a few slices of pitta bread and some dips for $16. I honestly could have done the same at home for $5.

The mains were very good: Barramundi with tomato salsa was tasty, and the garlic prawns were excellent. The size of the mains was adequate, especially when you have to pay $10.50 for a side order of vegetables,

The dessert was nice, macadamia tart, which again could easily be made at home.

the win, Tim Gramp Riesling, reasonably priced at $33.50.

Overall then, good food, great ambience, good service, Food: Nice but preposterously overpriced. If this is the best seafood restaurant in Adelaide i'd be shocked. Worth a try but I will not go back until I can get a meal for 2 with wine under $150, something plenty of equally good restaurants in Adelaide seem to achieve.
