La Mancha Holiday Suites
Reviewed January 3, 2013

La Mancha Holiday units are located in a tiny street called St Johns Row just up from the opulent Stamford Plaza Hotel. A week's stay in peak holiday time at la Mancha will cost you about $AUS1000. There are only 8 car parks for over 24 units, so at times there was a problem with car parking. La Mancha have a reciprocal parking agreement with the Stamford hotel and they will reimburse your parking fee, but it was full everytime we tried, as it was during Xmas/new year. The units in themselves were clean and stocked with the basic necessities and linen was changed 3 times. Fridge, stove, iron, toaster, microwave and aircon worked well. Glenelg beach was just across the walk way with bbq facilities and the jetty nearby. Shops, a Coles supermarket and boutiques were a short walk away. Laundry was on site and a wash cost 2x$1 coins with washing powder supplied. The clothes airer in apartment was handy for clothes if you didn't want to use the dryer which cost $AUS1. We watched the New Year's Eve fireworks over Glenelg beach from our balcony. The stairs are a steep climb if you are on the first floor, which would be unsuitable for the elderly or disabled. Be aware that some shops and major supermarkets are closed on Xmas Day, Dec 26th and New Years Day. You can buy basics like bread, butter, milk, jam, water etc in the convenience stores in the main street.

Room Tip: Elderly people need to ask for a room on the ground floor.

This property was our home for a week and it is supplied with everything you will need to have a great week (linen, dishes, pots&pans, towels, etc.). There is a Coles about a 5-10 min walk away and therefore preparing meals was quite easy. You are only about 100m from a tram station that takes you right into Adelaide. The only BIG downer is there is no Wifi access (free or paid), which made it extremely diffcult to communicate with home. Overall it was a great location and if you can get an Oceanview, well that's the cherry on the cake.

Room Tip: If you have a smart phone or tablet, get a sim card (about 1$) from the local telephone provider (Vo...

We stayed for 7 nights. The location is wonderful. The rooms are clean but do not expect anything too fancy on this budget. I think a DVD player would be a good addition. Beware that there is no elevator at this property. It can be a bit of a climb to the top floor but once there the view is superb. We would recommend this for a budget getaway.

Room Tip: Front rooms on ground floor can be a little noisy but great outlook. If you don't mind the stair...

We have stayed at La Mancha four times over four years. We love to park the car and have a walking holiday which is very easy to do when you are in the heart of Glenelg. This location is amazing and the ocean views from La Mancha are spectacular. We have had four fantastic family holidays at La Mancha and in January 2013 we will make it five. The unit is always clean and comfortable and the staff are very friendly and quick to help with any requests.

Room Tip: All rooms are good rooms but especially the ones with ocean views.

When I booked our holiday I wasn't really sure what to expect. When we got there I first was so impressed by the location. Next to the beach, next to the main street filled with nice shops and restaurants. A short stroll from the Beach house. When I entered the apartment I was so happy to see how clean everything was. The beds, rooms, kitchen! We could see the beach. The kids loved their bedroom with bunk beds! Everything we needed was there. And the price, 175 per night, for two adults and 3 kids is really affordable. The kids loved the very child friendly beach and sea and so did we. Barbeques in front of the house. Tram stop next door. Tram takes you rigt into Adelaide city! No need to use your car! I can go on for a while...We are coming back! Thanks!

Room Tip: Next time I would try to get a sea view room although we could even see the beach and sea from our s...

We stayed at La Mancha for a whole month in November 2011. We found our stay even better than expected. I have previously stayed at Corfu, just around the corner, and was most satisfied with that. It was clean, modern, uncluttered, and comfortable with a practical layout and contained everything necessary for a leisurely stay.
La Mancha was all that with the added bonus of a perfect setting. The front door opens onto a pedestrian esplanade and lawn and just across that is the beach.
Jetty Rd with its restaurants, cafes, shops, as well as the tram into Adelaide, is just 100 metres away.
We had the added advantage of the top (third) floor apartment with balcony looking right out across the sea. It costs several dollars a day more than the apartments without a sea view, but it is definitely worth it. Even on stormy evenings, we could sit in the sun room off the master bedroom, sipping wine and watching lightning flash across the sea. We have countless photographs of nearly every sunset during our stay!
The beach was pleasantly empty. Some weekends when there was lively action in Glenelg, it was usually confined to north of the jetty.
The apartment is spatial and comfortable – clean and recently renovated. The master bedroom is isolated from the living room. The second bedroom is quite small, just fitting two single beds, end to end, and is divided from the living area by a pair of glass doors. This is probably not very practical for small children. Were I staying there with children, I would probably put them in the master bedroom, and keep the secondary bedroom for myself. (The beds are level with the large windows so you can lie in bed and gaze out across the sea without raising your head!)
I have to mention one reservation to this gushing praise. Our stay at La Mancha was in the off-season, and the house was quite empty. Now and again we noticed someone else staying there, but on the whole it felt as if we were all alone. I can imagine that during high season it could be livelier with all the attendant problems – noise, warm water running out etc. However as I had no experience of this I shall say no more.
There is a perfectly usable laundry room and a car park at the back (re-paved during our stay).
There is no reception or office at La Mancha. The Corfu offices are half a kilometre away. In all our contacts with the administration, we found them friendly, helpful and flexible. The cleaning staff we met in the stairs were also friendly and helpful. You are responsible for cleaning the apartment yourself, which is just fine. Clean towels are brought twice a week, and clean bed linen once a week.
Our stay in Adelaide was a very happy and comfortable one – in large part due to the superb accommodation at La Mancha. We can sincerely recommend it!

La Mancha has been our number 1 choice for family accommodation in Adelaide for 20 years. And previously to that I used to stay here with my parents a good 30 years ago! It's just a lovely place to stay, so incredibly convenient - a 2 minute stroll to Jetty Road and all the shops, restaurants & great coffee and just out the front door to the beach! Perfect.

We have stayed on every level over the years and all have their benefits, the 3rd floor is lovely and quiet, although you do need to be able to climb 4 flights of stairs. Some of the suites more towards the rear without a sea view actually DO have a sea view, through smaller side windows, and most have access to a balcony with chairs that overlook the foreshore action.

The new renovations were very well received, and La Mancha really does look great and has now been brought into modern times with slick new bathrooms and comfortable sofa and chairs in the loungeroom, fresh carpet throughout and nice homely touches. And the TV has brilliant reception, only no DVD player so if you were staying a few days with young children it may be worth bringing one from home for that downtime after a busy day at the beach. Full kitchen with everything you need, even a cork screw! Everything is spotlessly clean. The ladies at La Mancha are brilliant, couldn't be more helpful and communicative and it's always a pleasure to book with them. As usual, we'll be back!!
