Ventured into the downtown branch of Everest Spice (Cnr. Ruthven & Margaret Sts.) for Sunday lunch on 16 Dec 2012. Our party of 5 was shown to and seated a table at the far end of the restaurant close to the counter above which was a tv playing a Bollywood movie. The Nepalese decor was colourful and somewhat kitsch, but did not detract from our dining experience. The front doors and windows were left ajar permanently rendering the air-conditioning ineffective and we also had to contend with a few flies. The restaurant was not busy and the service was to our satisfaction. My wife and I opted for Beef Madras and Lamb Nawabi with the usual servings of steamed rice and naan. The variation in the taste of the two curries was subtle, the Beef Madras being a touch spicier. However, there was a distinct sugary sweetness in the two dishes, untypical of authentic Indian curries.
