“Arrogant and Rude Male Manager”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2013

Stayed 8 nights in total on a concrete pad campertrailer site on the creekside.
Park has quite a few permanent residents we met 4 lovely couples staying and working in
Isa,they made us feel welcomed Unlike the manager of the park Steve,he was very
unfriendly and downright rude.Would not speak until spoken to 1st,no smile no waves,
No public communication skills whatsoever. He was creeping around the park at night
making us feel very uneasy.Couldnt wait to get outta there.
Park did have a good camp kitchen, pool and amenities, dumpster bins.
Would never go back while under current management,a manager with a friendly, positive
attitude would make this park awesome.

We stayed 5 nights at Sunset caravan park in mt isa last week, and we had an amazing stay. The owners, Steve and Julie are really nice and friendly, and also gave us lots of good tips and advices to make our stay in their caravan park a great time.
The campground itself is great, with a nice campkitchen with all the facilities you need, such as 6 gas stoves, toasters, microwave, fridge, TV and barbecues. The staff always make sure that the facilities they provided are clean at anytime.
We also enjoyed to have a swimm in the saltwater swimming pool of the caravan park. How great it is to refresh in such a pool, and then just chill out on a long chair, reading a book in a quiet place like this...
All our stay long we could see that the owners really looked after their beautiful park, by keeping it always clean and willing their guests to have the best stay they could have imagine here in Mt Isa.
A short walk also leads you to the city lookout. You don't want to miss the sunset down there ..
So if you go to Mt isa, we highly recommend to stay here. Great location, great value, nice people and a relaxing place. You will not find any better place to stop and ressource on your way to the red center.

Room Tip: Bungalows and Villas are really nice, and With the Air Con!

The park is run by people who offer very little cheer. The park was very dusty, covered in leaves and had smallish sites. At night the sound of cars and other vehicles was very loud.
We had an uncomfortable stay not impressed with the way the owners treated us at times and their general attitude.
I would never return whilst under the current management.

We arrived in Mount Isa after 6 pm and were not aware that most caravan sites close their reception at 6 pm. After trying a few with no luck we happened upon the Sunset Top Tourist Park and luckily someone was at reception. There were no powered or unpowered sites however we were able to get in to one of the cabins. The cabin was clean and comfortable and just what we needed after 3 days of long travel and camping.

For those of you looking for wifi there is a hotspot available in the camp kitchen and while we didn't make use of it this time we were impressed that this was offered at a reasonable cost of $5 per day

My boyfriend and I intended on staying in the camp ground here for 7 nights, however we were advised by the owners there was a "5 night maximum over 12 months", so we left after 5.

When we checked in here the lady on reception was lovely and accommodating to us. Turned out she wasn't one of the owners, as the next day my boyfriend (who has long hair and a beard) went to book in for another 2 nights and was questioned by the owner Steve about how long we intended to stay. He walked away feeling that he'd been treated quite rudely.

Two days later I went to pay for another 2 nights' accommodation and, after accepting payment, the owners advised us we could only stay for 5 nights as "there is a 5 night per 12 month maximum at the camp ground". We had not been told this before and upon reviewing their website and booking conditions we saw no mention of this. I left feeling rather upset at the icy and judgemental way I had been treated.

As the owners were forced to admit, my boyfriend and I were courteous and quite tenants, so I can only put this sort of treatment down to the fact we were considerably younger than everyone else, and that with our long hair, tattoos and piercings, we looked considerably different. We were extremely disappointed to be treated in such a manner.

In terms of the park itself, the camp kitchen was great, clean, and never too busy. The bathrooms weren't too bad. The camp ground was not good for a number of reasons - one, there was hardly any grass and we got dust everywhere (I know this is almost bound to happen in such a dry part of the country, but still). Also, we were never specifically allocated a camp site so we felt we couldn't leave anything when we left to go exploring. In fact, three bags of fruit we left for the day were stolen while we were away.

I would thoroughly recommend anyone under the age of 50 and/or anyone who doesn't conform to the owners' apparently perochial tastes stays somewhere else.

Mt Isa is full of fly-in/fly-out mine workers. Consequently accommodation is in high demand and this would seem to have dampened the need to provide quality lodgings or decent customer service.

We stayed two nights here (wish we had not) in an ensuite cabin. Reception was efficient if icey, but the quality of the cabin itself was very, very poor. Rotting skirting boards in the bathroom, constantly leaking taps and a general air of being old and worn out mean that I can't recommend this place, especially at $99.00 per night.

Probably the only praiseworthy things were that the grounds and other facilities were neat and tidy, and the place was as quiet as a graveyard after 9:00pm, meaning that we could get a reasonable nights sleep.

Room Tip: Try to get as far away from the road as possible.
