After looking at trip advisor my husband and I really were not keen to stay here however as anyone who comes to Mackay without a prior reservation will realise getting a room is very hard. Due to it being a mining town everything gets booked up in advance and at ridiculous prices. So after driving round town we needed here as a last resort. Walking into reception I almost left and wanted to sleep in the car as coupled with the dodgy reviews there was an awful smell. In hindsight it may have been the owners cat or some bad cleaning fluid. I dreaded going into our room however I opened it and was thrilled. Not only did it smell nice and clean it was spotlessly clean. It looked recently refurbished in the main bedroom/living area, had a flat screen tv and was everything we needed for a short stay. The bed was very comfy and other guests quiet. We had just moved to the town for work and ended up staying another two nights on top which we certainly wouldn't have done of this place hadn't been just fine. The shower was a bit small and yes some rooms are facing the main toad so could be noisy with traffic however there are no loud bars or drunks like in other places in the CBD plus we live in big cities usually so aren't fussed by noise. The owners were friendly and at $95 is probably one of the more reasonably priced places in town. Just keep your prices down don't put them up! I would urge people not to judge this place on previous reviews which may have been pre renovations as we almost did.

Room Tip: If you are sensitive to noise get one not facing the main road.

Another motel that looks a little dated from the outside and is on the inside too. Looked like there had been water through the place as the bottom of the wardrobe door indicated such. Try to avoid a room along the highway as trucks travel relentlessly through the night and the traffic lights just up the road cause a lot of braking and stopping. You can try to sleep by counting trucks its just like counting sheep but it doesnt work. My room was not cleaned for over 6 days although the bed was almost made and fresh towels supplied . Garbage just collected in the bin and the bedside table had a thick film of dust. There must also be a shortage of soap in Mackay as it was not replaced. No restaurant here just room service. It was a short walk to the Shamrock pub which has basic pub food and roasts at reasonable prices. The shower also leaked through the sealant across the bathroom floor. The only good things were the air con was quiet and the TV had a decent picture.
All in all there has to be better motels in Mackay then this one.

Room Tip: If you do stay here make sure you ask for a room at the back away from the highway.

I stayed in an Executive Suite at Mackay Motor Inn for one night. I paid $120 for the room which was good value for money especially in Mackay. The room has recently been renovated and was clean and well presented. It had a table, 2 chairs, desk, microwave, flat screen tv, inverter split system air conditioner which worked really well in February humidity, a small fridge and the other usual things you find in a motel room. The bathroom was a reasonable size and everything looked new.

My only negative comment would be is that there is no crockery or cutlery to use the microwave. There was just 2 cups, 2 glasses, 2 wine glasses and 2 spoons. It would not hurt to put a few pieces of cheap cutlery and a couple of plates for use by guests.

I would definitely stay here again.

We had this room booked several weeks ago because rooms are in demand in Mackay. We specifically asked for 2 beds, when we arrived there was only one bed. This was soon rectified by supplying a short folded bed (not comfortable for a bloke over 6ft). The room was generally clean but verry old.It was like stepping back into the 70's. Old laminate panelling over the walls.
Broken showerscreen with a shower curtain that chases you in the shower. The position was handy to the business centre though.

Room Tip: If you can, book somewhere else with more modern amenities!!

Accommodation is hard to get in Mackay and sometimes you just have to settle for what is available. Mackay Motor Inn is one of those options. Located more than a short walk from any amenities the only option for breakfast is room service that must be ordered by 8pm the night before. The rooms are old and although in need of a makeover and some new linen, reasonably clean.

Dear Guest,
Thank you so much for your feedback. It is great to have the opportunity to provide information about our motel to you and other future guests, so that on your next stay you may feel more comfortable.

In regards to amenities, the Lagoon Cafe & Restaurant provide breakfast, lunch & dinner to those who may choose not to eat with us, and is situated opposite the Mackay Motor Inn on Lagoon Rd. Other amenities including Supermarket, Service stations, Chemist, Restaurants, Hotel and fast food outlets are located 2 blocks down Nebo Rd, and the local bus service stop is just outside our front door.

Our refurbishment program has already seen 85% of our rooms refreshed and several rooms fully renovated to a higher than 3 ½ star rating that we are. At the time of writing of your review we have ordered and had shipped new bedspreads for all of our rooms.

As many of our guests require to have breakfast served from 6:30am, to ensure that we have time to prepare for this service, we require breakfast orders in during reception hours, which are 7:30am to 8:30pm Weekdays and 8am to 8pm Weekends. We have however in the past, and even recently, when a guest had put in a breakfast order well after these hours which was to be delivered outside of our breakfast times, gone out of our way to ensure that at least a continental breakfast was supplied to them to ensure they had something to get their day started.

We strive to ensure our guests’ needs are catered for in many ways and indicate our service offer through our advertising, in house communication and on the Web and still offer more than even this. Like many motels of this size and rating, we operate our business as Resident Managers and cannot therefore provide the staff levels required to provide out of hours food service such as is available in the higher rated and more expensive facilities. Our room prices, therefore offer a great value alternative for many guests and range from $89 for a single/double to $145 for up to 4 guests per room.

Thank you for recognising our cleanliness standards, as we have always adopted a principle that a clean older room beats a dirty modern room, everytime. This together with our service offer and value for money is why we consistently have above 60% of our monthly occupancy filled with return guests.
