Its getting harder and harder to find a good little restaurant on the coast that provides service and appreciates return clientelle from locals. Many of the come by night fancy affairs closer to the tourist hot spots of Broadbeach and Surfers Paradise will grace your wallet but leave a bitter taste in terms of service and value for money. They dont aim for repeat clientelle, as next weekend, there will be 30 000 new tourists.
Kampung Malay has been a long time family favourite of ours for oer a decade. It is a non pretentious restaurant that is clean, has efficient service with a warm smile, and the food is consistently good.
As others have mentioned - the Roti Bread is amazing with the most yummy peanut satay dipping sauce (I always need more of that addictive sauce!).. I also love the hot and Sour Soup. Their mixed entree platter is also great value and a tasty affair when sharing with a few people..
Mains - the Salt and Pepper Calamari is YUM... and the Penang Curry Chicken would have to be a favourite!
It is also BYO which is nice. There is a bottle shop just next door, but it has a fairly small selection of wine and and fairly pricey... (Geisen >$20/bottle!) So BYO fav wine before you arrive.
I hope this restaurant keeps serving the local community and remains the good value place it is, serving consistently great food for many more decades to come.
