“DISGUSTING”
Reviewed December 5, 2013

I was charged $207 for a 3 star room that had not been fully serviced. After travelling all day I specifically chose to stay at Rydges with the expectation I would be able to relax in comfort. DUPED! The bathroom was in desperately need of renovation, toilet tap leaked water over the bathroom floor, flush did not stop running, the TV picture was constantly distorted or would freeze, sound on the TV was distorted, jumbled and lacked volume. When I retired to bed I was shocked to discover the sheets and pillow case had not been pressed and lacked the fresh feeling of clean linen. Shock later turned to horror in the morning light where it was easy to see the stained linen had not been changed after the last guest. On check out I raised these matters with the receptionist who informed me the manager was in a meeting and would phone me as soon as he was free. I am still waiting for your call.

Room Tip: When you see the Rydges sign at Gladstone. Keep driving. Do not stop.

The room I stayed in was large with a balcony. The queen size bed was comfortable & there were the usual hotel amenities such as jug iron minibar & flat screen tv although reception wasn't the best.
The bathroom was aged but ok with good water pressure and a bath.
The reception staff were friendly & helpful.
Parking is not secure but there is plenty of it.
Gladstone is a pretty expensive place to stay so the rates aren't cheap but set about right.

Thank you for the feedback. Rydges Gladstone has recently had a major refurbishment, and we continually work on improving the product we sell. Yes Gladstone in General is expensive however you can find bargain’s if you look in the right places eg. Rydges.com/Gladstone best rate guaranteed.

Kind Regards
Tom

Situaated across the road from the main hotel are three blocks of units with a ground floor and first floor more motel style than hotel . I Stayed in one of the studio apartments with a kitchenette , this is basically a larger ( i am guessing than the hotel rooms ) room with a kitchen sink and a microwave. It would be so much better with a stove top as on a longer stay you can rely less on junk food . The room i am told was renovated after the floods but it would seem that some parts were replaced and some not.
The best part of the room is the bed which was very comfortable.
The bathrooms are old and it would improve the look if things that had gone rusty were replaced to make it look better, Shower components and drawer handles are not expensive ! The towels had torn edges and were frayed not a good look .
The tv was shocking and had very bad reception. It had to have been one of the very first flat screens that were manufactured ! I complained to reception and the receptionist Holly who had checked me in said she would try and help with it , she was a real gem in this place of average. She organized another gem in Rowan to come and see if he could fix the tv , he went one better and replaced the tv . The signal was vastly improved but with still some stations unable to be viewed oh well!
The staff in this place and what stops me from calling the place poor . They are all very nice.
The car parking which is according to their website is restricted entry is parking in a car park in front of the units however in the week i stayed there the gate didnt shut and i have gone past the units numerous other times at various times including late at night and the gates are not shut , they probably don't work !
The cost of internet access is crazy at $18 a day even with a discount if you stay all week and the membership rewards discount it still is expensive where it is free elsewhere.
The room was expensive and when other places offer better value and free wifi i cannot recommend this hotel.. It would seem they trade off the Rydges name and i don't think can be compared with other Rydges properties.

Appreciate the feedback. You were placed in one of our Studio apartments which are located opposite the hotel. They are 10 years or so old. We encourage your feedback so we can fix any of the issues that may arise throughout the hotel. I am glad to see that all your main concerns were fixed on the day, and as far as the bed nothing beats the Rydges Dream Bed.

Staff at reception are very helpful and friendly. We had a very enjoyable dining experience in the restaurant which was 1st class. New menu was delicious. Would definitely recommend hotel and CBD Restaurant for dining. Already looking forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: I would recommend a harbour view room which overlooks the Gladstone Harbour. Lights at night are sp...

This hotel advertises remodelled rooms on its website yet supplies superficially improved decor, wardrobe doors and beds only! Their shower over bath facilities are very dangerous with narrow standing room and the OLD shower curtain, what a disgrace.
They still charge very high 5 star rates (for a 3 star hotel) and on top of that arrogantly gouge a credit card fee of 4.5% (FOUR AND A HALF PERCENT!!!). Morally wrong and about double the fee the supplier charges, these people have no shame! We all know the fee is built into their overheads anyway and then they GOUGE again with a double up!
I gave them a go because I'm in Gladstone regularly, having stayed there some 10 years ago, but little has changed except the ripoff fees, they've lost me, never to be conned there again.

Stayed in one of the studio apartments out the back of the Hotel. Its was noisy with people drinking till late during the week. Then noise of workers leaving early in the morning.. So not the ideal place to stay unless your having a beer till late and get up at 5:00am.. The food was good in the restaurant and pretty good value. So if you stay here stay in the main hotel.

Gladstone first thing in the morning is a very busy place, lots of movement all around. We are very proud though of our food and beverage department and especially our new menu.
Next time in town opt to stay at Rydges in one of our hotel rooms, as the studios are located outside of the main block of the hotel, great for getting in and out quickly however it can get loud.

It looks like the rooms were given a fresh breath of life not too long ago by the looks of it but the tv was mounted on the wall with a downwards lean that was hard to watch. The television was in need of replacing as it had a horrible whistle. The room air conditioning (which you did have the option of turning on or off yourself) was incredible noisy - I slept with ear plugs and it didn't seem like it made a difference, until I took them out and was yet again reminded of just how noisy it was without the earplugs all over again. Like a lot of multilevel, thin walled hotels one could hear other travelers use the bathroom :( The in room meals were OK but I think overpriced for what they were. ALL THAT SAID - the beds, pillows and doona were amazing ...just wish my ear plugs worked better.

Once again the Dream Bed is the winner. And you are correct we have had a refurbishment late last year, and the new colour scheme is looking fantastic, I specifically like the tree stump for a coffee table.
We are currently sourcing new TV’s to finish off the upgrade, they should be replaced by the end of the year.

Cheers
Tom
