I recently stayed overnight at Rydges Gladstone for business. The hotel staff were fantastic and very helpful when I had questions about the town and property. The hotel is very clean and in need of an update. I mentioned this to the reception desk and I was advised that they are about to begin a refurbishment of the rooms. This is definately in need.

Room Tip: I stayed in a Harbour view room and the bed was really comfortable

We stayed here on New Years Eve as a party of 4.
Beautiful hotel and a great location.
The staff at reception were great, but the rooms needs upgrade.
Enjoyed the swimming pool and harbour view from room. We must return.
We had a fantastic meal here. Started off with predinner drinks followed by dinner. Simply amazing. Restaurant staff had fantastic customer service & went out of their way to ensure our experience matched our expectations. Same goes for breakfast, great buffet selections.
During checkout I was told hotel is going through refurbishment. We will return in July again.

Dirty old carpets , scanky bathroom, smelly bed with crappy mattress, the only good thing this dump had going for it was the staff and the exit sign, never again unless they knock it down and replace it with a tent which would be far more pleasurable

Thank you for taking the time to pass on your comments - we sincerely appreciate this type of feed back as we genuinely want to know what our guests think about our facilities and service....good or bad.
In the coming months we will be heading into phase 2 of our room upgrades incorporating all furniture, fittings and carpets. Late last year we completed the external upgrade of the hotel and now lead into the internal upgrades of all rooms, restaurant and hotel foyer.

Although an Australian owned hotel chain, but this hotel gives me a feel of the good US hotels we have stayed in during our tour there a few years ago. We were 'forced' to stay in the hotel after bad weather caused our helicopter flight to Heron Island to be cancelled. Last minute search for a hotel to house my family of 4 with young children in little Gladstone is not easy, and I settled for the more expensive Rydges hotel so that we can stay together in the same room with 2 queen beds. Guess what? it is still cheaper than our reef room on Heron Island! With the facilities and services you get, the price of the hotel room is quite understandable. Given the circumstances, it was something to cheer about in a gloomy day or disappointment. I was quite surprised to find coin-operated laundry facilities in the hotel. There was a gorgeous pool, but we didn't used it because of the rainy condition that day. The complementary breakfast was fair. The service staff was warm and friendly, but variety and amount of food on display probably reflect the low number of visitors who stayed there during our visit (quite understandable). The hotel was along a road of shops and restaurants. It should be busy during the day, but when we were there in the evening, most are closed. But we still found a hotel (Grand hotel) restaurant (cheaper than the one in Rydges hotel) for dinner, that gave very large quantity of food. Our room was large enough for the 4 of us, and plenty of room for our stuff. Everything found in a standard hotel was there, and it was clean and things in good condition too. Check-in and check-out were fast, and staff was helpful when I encounter some problem with using the laundry facilities. I would recommend the hotel to any family that end up in the same circumstances as mine. Expensive, no doubt, but your day will probably be worst if you stay somewhere else. For solo travellers and couples, this hotel probably is too expensive, unless you can afford it.

The high cost reflects lack of competition rather than quality of hotel. Very sad, dated decor. The room was clean and had the basic requirement in refreshments and toiletries . The bed was comfortable and clean. However the decor was tacky and worn. The only chair was torn and worn away in places. Even in low occupancy we were placed in a room directly above the kitchen and found the overly warm carpet unpleasant in summer.

Reception staff appeared to be bored and lacked motivation - perhaps the decor is depressing them.

Dinner and breakfast were ok and dinner staff very pleasant.

Dont feel that this hotel provides a good image for international tourists on their way to the Great Barrier Reef.

Room Tip: I doubt that any room would provide value for the money charged.

i stayed at this hotel last week and i have to say it was te worst room i have stayed in this year (23 different rooms). Firstly it cost well in excess of $300 per night - the room had no bedside lamps - the only light switch was at the door which iff nature calls in the night you have to "feel' your way to the door before you got any light. The lounge was worse than you would find on the side of the road for rubbish collection - all the imitation leather had all peeled off and looked discusting. at over $300 per night i expected better. this used to be the best hotel in town when Country Comfort owned it - Rydges should be ashamed of them selves.

Room Tip: best way to select a good room is don't stay at this hotel

Thank for highlighting these issues to us, it is very much appreciated as it certainly helps and assists us with knowing our guests experiences.
Our rates are set within the regional source market and in line with demand.
For the interim I have removed all old couches and replaced them with lounge tub chairs whilst our room upgrades are taking place. I apologise that there where no bedside lamps in your room and this has now been rectified.
