“Amazing Penthouse”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

This was my second stay in the Penthouse, the views from the 23rd floor are fantastic.Having your own pool, spa and huge deck is one of the things that really makes this place more appealing. We were an adult family of 8 and it accommodated us all very comfortably.I have also stayed in the penthouse with girlfriends,8 of us in total, and there is so much room, you can still find palace to read, watch tv,or be mesmerised by the view, and watch the wales, from one of the many balconies.
The kitchen is well stocked, the bar is great, everything you could want.
Only down side they still don't have wifi, but the office said they are working on it...
The apartments are close to lots of restaurants, shopping centre, surf club, and cinema.
If your looking for a special place for a special occasion,or a girls get away, you won't be disappointed.
I'm lucky enough to be going back to stay real soon.

Stayed with husband and baby on my first mini break since giving birth 4 months ago. I really needed a break. We were trying to book into Mint Ocean Plaza however it wasn't very clear that Mint no longer operates Ocean Plaza, so we accidentally booked into Points North. The rooms are ok. The kitchen is ok but appliances worn. Same with the bathrooms. Air conditioning is pretty hopeless - unless you are sitting right in front of it the rest of the rooms are stifling. The 2nd bedroom doesn't even have a ceiling fan. What really got me though was the construction. We were told on our first day construction finishes at 5pm which it did. Second night - it's 7:30pm. Really frustrated with how we were booked into a room overlooking the construction site with a young baby. Consideration should have been made to book us higher up and away from the noise. Alas our well deserved trip away has been very frustrating !

Never book at this place till the adjoining building construction is finished. We were given Lvl 6 close to the construction and were informed it will not proceed beyond 5pm but, to our distaste, it went on till 7:30pm. To make matters worse we advised in our booking we have a child and no attempt was made to ensure we were given the quieter end of the building (not sure if this will still drown out the noise though). I would suggest you book with Ocean Plaza which was previously part of the Mint management but this is no longer the case. Ocean Plaza is safely located away from the construction sight and their facilities/service is miles ahead with service.

Try & get one of the ocean view apartments. We were able to see the whales out to sea from the balcony. Clean & comfortably furnished. Kitchen well appointed & allowed us to cook in when we so desired. Located above shopping centre & opposite surf club is very convenient. Overall very pleasant experience (despite a little bit of noise from construction across the road).

I chose this apartment for location and when we arrived we were not disappointed as they had allocated us a wonderful ocean front apartment. Super spacious with absolutely everything you would ever need in the kitchen, fantastic adjoining balconies from lounge to separate bedroom and a huge lounge and dining room which as so homely and classy that we felt very special. The separate laundry was so great to have and we utilised that often. In the building is a shopping centre and across the road is the beach. So perfect for us a s a couple or it would be brilliant for a family as there is also pool etc in the building and the sea and playground over the road. Just loved this place so do not go past it. Superb staff also on the front desk - many thanks Colleen for all your help.

We rented a 3bedroom apartment on the 22nd floor. This had stunning views from all rooms, comfortable beds and modern furniture. The ladies on reception were very helpful and friendly. Aldi supermarket was very handy. This is at the Kirra end of the main strip, but still very handy. Everything was that we needed was in walking distance

Unless you're looking for serious luxury and services, Mint's Points North Apartments really fit the bill for a stay in Coolangatta. Our 13th floor, 2-bedroom, 2 bathroom apartment was outfitted to a nice standard. At $185 per night it was probably at the top of the price range for the accommodation, and seeing rates on offer for the same thing "in-house" of $119 per night left me feeling I'd overpaid somewhat, even though I booked direct with Mint.

On arriving at the room after a smooth and efficient check-in, the first thing we noticed was the RACKET!... Looking out from the balcony over the beautiful beach, ocean, coastline and CONSTRUCTION site, I instantly knew it wasn't the waves crashing that was causing the noise.

At that stage there was ABSOLUTELY no mention on Mint's website about the adjacent construction which was well under way, across the road. It was only after I complained that a very minor and obscure reference to the information online (which spoke ONLY of the other construction being carried on within the building) was made, although you'll need to read through it twice to notice it. That updated edit still gives the reader the impression that construction noise is "possible" from 7am - 9am and 3pm - 6pm on weekdays... 8am - noon on Saturdays.

The reality is that the construction site next door starts at 6.30am SHARP, and continues unabated until 5.30pm. Every moment of daylight is consumed by this continual racket which is maintained at between 80db and 85db, peaking at 90db (I had a decibel meter on hand to test it - and have posted a screen shot of the reading at 7.19am).

If you close all windows and doors, the noise IS reduced, although the TV still couldn't drown it out, even at a high volume. So if you're unfortunate enough to be provided with a room on the Western side of the building, forget ALL about sleeping in, and plan to vacate the property during daylight hours if peace & quiet is part of your holiday plans.

In reply to my complaint, Mint's FOH manager offered some seriously ordinary excuses and only grudgingly took any responsibility for NOT having placed any notice of the ADDITIONAL construction OR the timings listed on their own website ... a free night on my next visit, 20% off additional days on my next visit, and an extended checkout time (of 1.5 hours) on THIS visit...just in case I felt like sitting around a little longer and listening to trucks, heavy machinery etc., after my 6.30 wake-up alarm provided courtesy of the duelling jack-hammers outside. I checked out at 8am!

What I wasn't offered, was the option of moving to a room on the "quieter side" of the building. That could be because the noise is just as bad where-ever you're located on-site.... I'll never know.

Anyway, it IS an otherwise nice place, fraying around the edges, a bit tired and worn, yet still comfortable and clean....but a fantastic view cannot compensate for the jack-hammers, the noise of machinery and endless procession of trucks, nor the ear splitting and endless BEEP-BEEP-BEEP of reversing alarms.

If you were thinking about booking here, and you are not profoundly deaf, just be aware from 6.30am until 5.30 pm, your suite offers NO PEACE and QUIET whatsoever.

By the looks of it, the large construction site on your door step will extend beyond the year 2013.

You've been warned!

Room Tip: Get a room in the year 2014 when the CONSTRUCTION racket may have died down a bit, or at least reque...
