“Excellent in all respects”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 26, 2013

We ate here on a perishingly cold, icy December Wednesday night - and I sincerely hope that those factors are alone responsible for how empty it was: just one other table was occupied during our time there. This place deserves to be packed: it is simply one of the best pub meals (and, by that, I don't mean it couldn't compete with restaurant meals - it most certainly could) that I have ever had. The menu is interesting and original and there wasn't a slip in any aspect of any of the dishes. Portions were on the huge side of generous (and I certainly don't have a bird-like appetite!) The welcome was warm and felt genuine and the service from the (very young) staff was perfect: professional, very friendly and unintrusive. When we praised one of the dishes, the chef came out to thank us, and to chat briefly. Genuinely perfect.

“Excellently cooked fish”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 29, 2013 via mobile

Tucked away, behind Belvoir Castle in the village of Branston , sits a real English pub serving very good food. Often offering slightly out if the ordinary dishes. This time we had whole lemon sole served with capers in a butter sauce, new potatoes and leek. You could smell and taste the freshness of the perfectly cooked fish. Good choice of real ale and if course wine. Book to avoid disappointment. Only closed Monday and serves good day. Nearby is the Jubilee walk just near Belvoir Castle car park. Work up an appetite before the good or indeed visit Belvoir.
