Wollongong Botanical gardens have one of the best roses gardens in NSW. Yes, there are bigger and more formal gardens in Bowral or Hunter Valley but Wollongong's' feels like your own. You know, when you retired and spend your days looking after roses - this is how it feels like to be at roses garden in Wollongong botanical garden. Enjoyed a lot. Also, there is an excellent glasshouse with succulents, wonderful pond with water lilies, Japanese bridge, rainforest, kids playground with a maze and not many people there. I would recommend going after lunch.
So much variety here - all sorts of plants and even the odd animal! Love the rainforest section, but also the beautiful flowers. Would recommend.
Great for a family get together. Beautiful grounds. Duck pond, play area, go for a walk around the beautiful gardens. Plenty of shade and sunny spots to picnic
The Botanic Garden is still magnificent despite the drought Wollongong is experiencing. The rainforest walk is well worth the effort. Today we spotted the rare powerful owl with its possum prey. There’s lots of wildlife to see if you keep your eyes open - ducks and many other birds, lizards and insects. The floral displays are wonderful. It’s a great place for a picnic and, if you are quick you can find an electric bbq to use. Best of all is the enclosed playground for young children. You can relax in shade while you little ones play. In school holidays there are activities for young children. Be surprised too be the libraries of books to read as you walk around.,
A few different gardens from a rainforest, dry garden and succulents, to a rose gardens with pavilion, and a Japanese style bridge. It’s an easy walk around, open shoes are not recommended (trust me) as there are sandy walking areas. Lots of shady spots and open lawns to sit with a picnic.
Here is a marvellous and very varied botanical garden. The range of plants is stupendous and the keen observer can see many bird species taking advantage of the differing environments, from semi-desert to lush rainforest.
