The Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort is an average caravan park in Fairy Meadow. It has reasonable amenities with an indoor pool, tennis court and small convenience store. The beach is at the back of the resort. The Wollongong area has beautiful beaches so it is great having the beach right at your doorstep.

We stayed in one of the cabins and as far as cabins go it was okay. Normally we would choose to stay in a hotel or a self contained apartment as we prefer a little luxury. As we were traveling with others who did not want to stay in a hotel we stayed here on the recommendation of one of the others who has stayed here previously.

Whilst there is nothing really wrong with the place, I think that is better suited for those who have a young family so it is easy to keep them entertained.

For dining, there is really not that much nearby in walking distance. There is a pub across the road that has reasonable food. This is good if you just want to have a few drinks and walk back to your accommodation. The bottle shop is also across the road where the pub is.

I recommend that you bring your bike along as there is a great cycle track from Wollongong that goes through the northern suburbs of Wollongong. It is very picturesque and it is very nice to ride through the northern suburbs near the beach.

A man called bruce is the owner of this resort ,he is absolutly fantastic !! if you have any worries go to him for support !
first of all they stop check in at 6pm, i called minutes before this time to see if any rooms were available and luckily one was , unfortunatly i could not get there until 9pm but Bruce came out of his way and out of his working hours to check us in and get us set up for the night ,which i thought was fabulous ...
all the staff were polite

The room we stayed in was very basic ,looked like a chalet nothing speical but had air con a little kitchenette area which was well stocked with all kitchen ware , table and chairs a small shower room , dbl bed ( which were comfartable enough )plus bunkbeds and a cot it was really SPOTLESSLY CLEAN it was $80 for a weekday per night and $120 for weekend per night ,also they dont advertise they have internet access (wifi) which was $14.95 for 24 hours .. ask the freindly staff at the reception !

the beach was only 5 mins walk away and was a lovely beach ,but i didnt see the life guards in that area i only saw them at towragi beach which was about 10 mins walk.
there is also a small park for the children which looked good and safe , they had bike hire $5 per hour the kids can go hire one without adult supervision and gladly bike around the resort ( also gives parents a bit of quiet time ):-)

they dont have a resturant on the resort but if you go out the enterance turn right and walk for 5 mins u will come to a bottlemart , nightclub and resturants , i never used these so can not comment .

the indoor swimming pool got really busy, but i found it to be quieter during the afternoons rather then the mornings, the spa's were lovely and hot ( children were allowed in the spas ) and the steam room was fab too .

if not hiring a car then the train station in fairy meadows was a good 10 min walk which is easy to find "note" on sundays they had family deals at the train station $2.50 per adult to travel to sydney and you also only pay for one child no matter how many you have !! that $2.50 was also a day hopper it allowed you to use this ticket for unlimited travel round sydney on the trains and busses and also ferries !!!! BARGAIN ,,, i think so .. but if you want to go in the week you were looking at around $25 per adult but still only have to pay for one child which is still good value as unlimted travel on all 3 transport so still good value !

The Wollongong Surf Leisure Resort is located on the beach at Fairy Meadow approximately 2km north of Wollongong.

It consists of a central reception building that contains a convenience store, indoor heated 25m pool, 2 small hot tubs, a steam room, bicycle ($5/hr) and video hire areas and limited local tourist information. The resort appears to be a caravan (trailer) park that was turned into some permanent sites/homes and row upon row of connected cabins. In many ways, it resembles an army or school camp. There also appear to be a limited number of van sites or camping area. Additionally, there appear to be some conference facilities available.

Guests can walk to the beach, ride on the bicycle track that goes through the resort and continues along the coast in both directions, play miniature golf (fee) on a very basic course or play tennis (fee). The swimming pool is available mostly in the morning and evening with most of the afternoons and some other times it being unavailable due to non-guests using it for swimming lessons.

The cabins are quite small and have an older look to them. The one we were in was very clean and the beds fairly comfortable if a little small (double and single bunk beds). It had a kitchen including refrigerator; air conditioning (cooling only) and gas heater although the starter didn’t work very well and we had to use the supplied matches to start it; and a bathroom with shower, toilet and small vanity. I believe that larger cabins are also available although none of the cabins looked like they’d be very big or newer judging from the outsides. Some cabins can be quite a distance from the pool and/or beach and we found that we drove to the pool complex, as it was quite cold the evening we were there and the walk in wet swimmers would have left us frozen. In the warmer weather, this would probably not be as much of a problem.

Entry is through a secure gate that requires a special key. There is a $20 deposit on the key. There is also a $10 deposit on the remote control for the television set. There is one parking space per cabin. Soundproofing between cabins is fair but a lot of external noise such as cars, radios and people talking seems to enter the cabin.

I would only recommend this ‘resort’ to people on a limited budget who don’t mind cramped living quarters, want/need a kitchen, and want to be near the beach with some resort style facilities such as pool and tennis included.
