“Avoid a room next to the lift AT ALL COSTS!!!”
Reviewed March 20, 2012

The motel is fine, really, but I have a room next to the lift. Whenever anyone goes up or down, it sounds like furniture is being moved around behind your head. The staff would have moved me, but I was too late in complaining, and housekeeping had left. I can deal with that, but if YOU don't want disturbed sleep until everyone else is asleep, I suggest you don't get this room. Everything is seems fine.

Room Tip: Away from the lift, peeps!

We met with a friendly and efficient staff at the check-in counter, we were asked if we would like fresh milk for our tea… very nice touch and much appreciated. Thumb up. Internet was not free, for $5 dollar I was given an instruction sheet with password and whoa la I can access the web for 24 hours.
We were rather surprised by the modern interior of the room. The King size bed was very comfortable with quality linens. I walked to Woolies across the street to buy some drinks as the mini bar fridge was large enough to hold our own bottles.
I would have given it 5 stars … if wasn’t for the noises! … We were given a ground floor room, and could heard noises from everywhere and were woken up early by the card door slamming, people taking, cases being dragged on the ground … it was awful, arrghhhhhhhh.
So stay at this motel if you are immune to noises or if not then bring some noise cancelling earplugs…

I stayed at this motel on a work trip. The room had recently been renovated and everything was clean and modern. Staff were helpful and friendly. The only issue was the noise. A lot of guests were up late at night, or left very early in the morning, which meant that I had a very broken sleep both nights I stayed here, being woken by cars and the sound of suitcases rolling along the path outside my room.

We have stayed at this motel on several occasions over the years, and always found it was free of traffic noise. We booked 2 rooms as one of our party was competing in the Canberra Half Ironman and needed an early start. The rooms are spacious, clean and recently refurbished. The facility is cheaper than Canberra and within walking distance of restaurants and shops. Woolworths and Aldi are around the corner. We arrived mid afternoon and cleaning staff were still busy cleaning and replenishing many of the units which we found odd. However, our units were ready. The tiny fridge had defrosted and when I went to put our freezer blocks into the ice box it was full of water as was the tray underneath. When I attempted to remove the tray to empty out the water the lot fell onto the bottom of the fridge and I had to use the tea towel to mop up the water. There was no toaster in the room as on previous occasions. Our rooms were near a stairwell to the upper floors which was a bit noisy as people clattered up and down. As one of our party was competing in the Ironman I asked if it was possible for her to have late checkout so she could have a shower before driving back to Melbourne, only to be told it would cost an extra $100 before midday (she didn't finish the event until after that time) and another night's fee if it ran past that time. We declined. We had previusly stayed at another motel in Queanbeyan when at a previousTriathlon event and had booked 3 rooms for our party and had been given late checkout up to 2p.m. with no extra fee. Should we go to another like event we will try the one that previously gave us free late checkout.

Room Tip: Ask for their best price, or book through an agency such as Wotif etc etc

We stayed overnight at the Central motel this week, and were very pleased with the cleanliness of the whole motel. Looking from outside you would not think it a large place, but when you drive in, it is shaped as a big horseshoe with all the units facing inwards towards the pool. The staff are friendly and helpful, and the rooms are neat and tidy. To my surprise I found that the shower flows hot and strong, a rareity in motels these days.

We needed a place to stay for 4 days while waiting for temporary accommodation in Canberra. We tried to find a place within Canberra but the prices were outrageous. We chose this hotel based on the tripadvisor reviews! Our biggest tip: call the hotel for the best price. We called to ask a few questions, and then happened to ask what the price was, and they gave us a price that was almost $40 less per night than we could find on the internet!

For our first night, we stayed in a queen with a single bed. Our 4 year old was going crazy and the room was on the small size for 2 adults and one preschooler, so we asked if they had anything bigger for the remaining days. They did - a one bedroom apartment. It was much better for us - gave us a little space, and there were 2 TVs.

The interiors of both the queen with single and the 1-bedroom were great. Everything is new and modern - you feel good coming into the place. The staff were very helpful with our many questions. They also had breakfast in the morning, and we had it twice - a little pricey, but we filled up on the breakfast buffet and didn't need to eat until 1 pm each day. The food was good and plentiful. They actually have 2 pools - a larger one for adults and a smaller one for little kids. It was quite cold but we braved it 2 nights in a row, and it was very clean and kept up well.

The downsides? Well, you are within 10 minutes walking distance to a lot of eateries and shops. But it's a very dated little city and not very inviting. In fact, if you drove by the Best Western itself, you might say, "Ugh, looks dated and old" and pass it by. The other issue is that some of the clientele are not the best - we had 3 young construction guys hanging out on the walkway on the 3rd floor, with no shirts on, drinking alcohol, making a lot of noise. We called and to their credit, the hotel did put a stop to it immediately.

Overall, if I could find a bargain in Canberra, I'd stay there because I prefer the location. But for the price, it's worth a bit of drive to Queanbeyan - and the interiors of the hotel will make you glad you did!

Spacious room with double bed, two nightstands, loveseat, round table with two chairs, desk, and Flat Screen TV. Refrigerator, no microwave, electric kettle, no toaster, and mugs, cups and saucers, and glasses. Mini-bar items. Tea, coffee, cookies/biscuits, and a carton of milk. Modern bathroom, hair dryer and iron/ironing board. Room faced inner parking and swimming pool. Walking distance to CBD and restaurants. Across from park. Quiet. Only issue for me was stepping up 1 inch into the bathroom. I tripped the first two times. Thereafter, we put a piece of white paper on the floor at the bathroom entrance to remind me of the tripping hazard. It worked fine. Excellent internet connection.
