Due to last week of Parliament sitting, ( 20th June) plus many other functions, I found most Hotels fully booked. I read Trip Advisor reviews on the few motels that did have a vacancy and was not impressed. Decided to take a chance with the Comfort Inn Airport, which is actually not in Canberra, but in Queenbeyan in NSW. It's also not at the Airport, but about a 10 minute drive away , in the opposite direction of Canberra. ( so make sure you hire a car!) Checked in very late due to plane delays (11:30pm), on a freezing cold, rainy night in mid-winter , and as previouslly advised, the reception closes at 10pm, and after this time you pick up the phone at front desk and nightwatchman comes around to check you in, Actually, it was a nightwatchlady, and very pleasant with it, despite late hour. Strange smell of chlorine about the place, like an indoor swimming pool type smell., though not unpleasant. ( it smelled clean!) My room, an Executive Queen + SofaBed on the second floor, was quite large and spotlessly clean and very comfortable. See photos. View overlooking the car park, but as I was only staying one night it didnt bother me. Free wifi internet access a big plus, as was tv with heaps of foxtel channels, all free. TV/Coffee maker in room, plus 2 small packets of Anzac Buiscuits. The Icing on the cake was that when I got into bed, someone on the staff had had the foresight to switch on the electric blanket for me, and so I was as snug as a bug. I had no idea that the room would even have such a thing as an electric blankets supplied. Well done Comfort Inn. ( certainly was comfortable).
Checked out at 10 next morning, and realised where Chlorine smell was coming from. The hotel/motel is two story only, and built like an atrium type place, with an indoor pool. Most rooms face inwards to the atrium, with only a few with a view ( like mine onto the car park!) .
Heaps of car park space by the way.
It takes about 20 minutes to drive into centre of Canberra, and quite a pleasant drive. I consider this place ideal for a cheap short stay visit, is good value for money ( I paid A$145 for an Executive double Queen room with a SofaBed, and I certainly had no complaints. I believe you can get a better deal from them than this when Parliament is not sitting or at weekends. Check out the price on some of the online last minute deal sites, but then do what I did and call the hotel direct, as they'll match (or better it) and you can then ask for a specific room.
