“Airport International Motel is the Best Hotel In Queanbeyan”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

I have stayed at many Motels in Queanbeyan as regular visitor to area and the Airport International Motel is the Best I have ever stayed at. Service Fantastic and very friendly. Room was excellent. Breakfast awsome and easy Parking. The facilities at this Motel are excellent and I highly recommend a stay. I will certainly be making it my preference for all visits to the area.

This is definitely not the ideal hotel to spend any more time than you have to. But how can you knock paying $109 for a night and leaving your car in their carpark for the duration of your holiday for free!! Plus, as long as your checkin time is after 7am you can catch the hotel shuttle to the airport, saving you a $25 taxi ride!!! If you check out the cost of airport parking you will discover this is a GREAT DEAL!!

We decided to pay an extra $10 for "an executive room" which was supposed to be recently "renovated"!!! I dont think so. But we survived, just, probably because we kept our sense of humour and focused on the free parking!

In a nutshell...

The room was quite strange, as in it had venetian blinds onto an open area which you had to keep closed unless you wanted all the other guests to see you. The room smelt - old and musty even though it was supposed to be renovated. The bathroom was dark and the shower was unreliable - either burning or freezing. The basin - outside the bathroom, and in the bedroom, had old peeling taps without tops to indicate hot and cold (even though "renovated")!

There was tea and coffe facilities in the room, and fresh milk from reception.

The airconditioner instructions did not match the actual controls point. Upon enquiry with Reception we were told sometimes the air takes time to work through the building. By morning "the air had still not made it to our room"!

We chose to eat at the restaurant as we wanted an early night, due to departure at 6.30am.
Whilst the menu looked interesting the actual meal was definitely heated up frozen fare. Very ordinary at completely over-rated prices.
We left too early for breakfast so cant comment.
We watched a young couple head for the 'pool' and retreat quickly once they were at poolside!! Not quite sure what that was about but assume not an enticing atmosphere!!

All in all a very ordinary, weird experience.....but the delightful receptionist/waitress (very young lady) was as helpful as she was able.

Keep focused on the FREE PARKING!!!!

Room Tip: Check out the room before accepting the offer. I.e. go and look at it before committing.

Booked for 3 nights only managed to stay for 2 and we were happy to forfeit our money just to leave. The Aircon really struggled to cool, it was filthy and not many of the lights worked to be honest the place is a hazard. In the atrium is very daggy. The whole place needs a good clean and to be modernised we are living in the 50’s anymore, its like stepping back in time. Don’t stay here

Hotel and motel prices in Canberra have risen so much in the past year or so that my wife and I decided to try this motel in Queanbeyan for a couple of days. It has been a landmark in Queanbeyan for at least 20 years with its roofline, which looks like a huge canvas tagine cover. Reviews we had read of the Airport International had been mixed, and as it was a deal cheaper than the Canberra motels, we decided to give it a try. The reception area is good, and check-in was efficient. The atrium inside was impressive and well maintained. However, the rooms all had windows which overlooked the atrium, meaning you could not have the blinds open as anyone walking past could see in, and the room itself was gloomy, with extremely low-power light globes. The bathroom tapware was chipped and old, and the shower was almost impossible to get a happy medium between scalding and cold. And, like many similar motels, notices in the bathroom paid lip-service to the environment by urging guests to re-use their towels, but the toilet cistern was single-flush only. The best thing about the room was the flat-screen TV. However, that conked out the night we arrived but we left it till the next morning to report as it was late. The next day we reported it to the front desk and asked that it be fixed by the time we returned in the evening. But it was not fixed when we returned. No one had passed on the message. The helpful girl on the front desk (it was her 4th day) offered to fix it. She came to the room and jiggled with the antenna connection and, hey presto, it worked. But she warned us not to touch it. The motel had advertised Foxtel on its outside sign, but all that was there were sports channels. For movies, you had to go to the front desk and sort through a pile of DVDs, which the receptionist would then put on a DVD player in the back room while you rushed back to watch it. I could go on, but that was the level of service. Cleanliness was fine but all in all, I would not use this motel again.

Room Tip: Sorry -- would recommend travellers find somewhere else

Wow,what a weird hotel.Very much stuck in a time warp, where no money has been spent for years. It has an impressive white canopy that makes the roof line stand out. Pity its rotting away now. Underneath the tent like structure is something that Neville Wran opened many years ago...and it feels like it to. The inside atrium is almost its own mini put put golf course with palms, fake grass and ponds.

The rooms are dark, the bathrooms humble with cracked toilet and tiles and the room made strange noises. Like another reviewer it would seem it may be the water hammers. The noise did abate, sort of. We had to have a deluxe room? Nothing to deluxe about it. It came with breakfast for one, which was damn awful. Instant coffee, and tepid food with an atmosphere to match. Ewww. Seriously there must be better around? The only thing good, was the bed was fine. Ohh and staff were like something out of faulty towers, poor English and really panicked when they had to cope with three customers at the desk!! Stay away...but go look for a laugh.

Why did we stay. We didnt know any better and we were desperate!

Room Tip: Room 42 had horrid loud sounds coming from the roof left hand side above the bed. No one else stayin...

Im guessing if you have no sense of imagination you might not like this place, but I thought it was fine. We checked in in the arvo but didnt see our room till midnight. We came back to see this awesome artificial indoor garden under the large white canopy, surrounded by all the rooms. With the sound of the little waterfalls it was quite serene. The room was large and spacious. The bed was a bit hard, and the timber blinds a bit strange but it was very clean.

If you like a banal chain motel with no soul then dont stay here. Its an interesting example of 80's design that still in good condition and I personally enjoyed the novelty of it. A bit expensive, but everything is in Canberra. The guy on the front desk is a bit quirky, but having a personality is a positive in my books.

Poorly lit rooms. Only one out of four lights was working in the room. Water hammering in taps. Over-priced room rates. Checked in at about 9 pm, but restaurant already closed. No room service. Nothing. No value for money.
