We found The Observatory by buying a Groupon voucher and had a wonderful time. When I looked at the features of our room, at first I was a little disappointed that our balcony had fitted louvres (as with all of the standard ocean view hotel rooms, which are inbetween apartment rooms on both sides of the building), however, after seeing the room in person it wasn't an issue. In fact, it added some privacy that we may not have otherwise had with an apartment room. We were on level 6 and had a gorgeous view of the park below and ocean, giant king bed, beautifully spacious bathroom with a huge shower and were greeted with wine, chocolates and fruit upon arrival.

The staff were lovely and accommodating. Underground parking was secure and convenient. The Milk Bar cafe on the ground floor seems to be a popular spot, and the coffee and breakfast were lovely.

Un-Observatory related: we booked in for a sunset river cruise with 'Cruise adventures' which they cancelled on us 25min beforehand due to lack of interest (something they could have done earlier in the day to give us the option of taking an earlier cruise or making other arrangements with another cruise company, or even taken the two of us out - poorly handled in my opinion). Also, do yourself a favour and avoid the Wall of China restaurant, yuck! See my review there for more information.

Whenever we visit Port Macquarie, I will be sure to book accommodation at The Observatory :)

Thank you so much for the top marks!

We are really pleased to hear that you enjoyed your hotel room package with king bed, choccies, wine, fruit and the view from your room.

Thank you also for your lovely feedback about the staff and the Milkbar Cafe on-site. Sorry to hear your cruise was cancelled, hopefully you get a chance to take one next time you visit.

Thanks again for taking the time to leave your feedback and we look forward to seeing you next time.

Stayed here for 10 days around my wedding .. We managed to get a room on the 5th floor with ocean views and after day 1 we did not want to leave !!!! Apartment contained laundry , oven , stove air conditioning , and plenty of room in the fridge for the on balcony afternoon beers.
Staff were fantastic and nothing was an issue for them as they were always happy to drop everything and help out for any request. Highly recommend this place to everybody and we are already planning our next holiday staying there.... FANTASTIC EFFORT !!!!! Keep it up and thank you for making our stay THE BEST HOLIDAY WE HAVE EVER HAD

Room Tip: Ocean view is a must

My husband and I stayed at the Observatory for 4 nights last week.
We had lovely beach views.
The unit was spotlessly clean as always.
This was our 4th visit to the Observatory, and will definately
be returning.
The heated pool, spa and sauna are an added bonus.
Jenny in reception was very obliging when we rang to make a reservation.
Thank you.

We have stayed in several hotels and resorts in Port Macquarie over the years, and The Observatory on our most recent trip would have to be the best. We had beach views from our room and verandah, and our room was modern, clean, quiet and beautifully decorated. We booked a Queen bed room (on special on Wotif.com) but we ended up with a King sized bed. Cafe and Restaurant downstairs is a big plus too, as the location is a little bit away from the main strip. Would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Port.

The Observatory is located up a small hill about 1 kilometre (just over half a mile) from the centre of Port Macquarie; so about a 10 minute walk. There is a pleasant small park in front of the Hotel and good sea views beyond.

There is secure parking under the Hotel. Reception was efficient and friendly. One negative point, for some people, is that I don't believe that Reception is manned 24 hours. If you need a Hotel with 24 hour reception, there probably are a couple of Hotels in Port Macquarie where Reception is manned around the clock.

Our room was a 3 bedroom apartment with ocean views. It was actually a 2 bedroom and a 1 bedroom with separate lockable doors to each apartment and another lockable door beyond to the hallway. The cost was $315 per night which I thought was reasonable value for money.

The apartment was clean, modern and spacious. The ocean views were pretty good.

The apartments are not to be confused with the 'Hotel rooms'. The apartments are at the front of the complex and, I assume, all have sea views. The 'Hotel rooms' are behind the apartments and, I assume, have no views. Obviously, the Hotel rooms are cheaper than the apartments and from the reviews I have read in the past, I believe are also of a lower standard than the apartments. I guess you get what you pay for.

If you intend going swimming at the beach every day, then the Observatory is in a very good location as it is only 2 minutes walk to the beach. If you are more interested in cafes, restaurants and the Town centre, then it is a 10 minute walk each way. There are quite a few Hotels that are closer to the Town centre.

This is my 3rd stay at the Observatory (2nd review) and I have never had a problem. I will most likely stay there again in the future. You know with the Observatory, that you are getting a good standard of accommodation. I refer to the apartments as I have never stayed in the Hotel rooms.

Thank you for your lovely review, glad to hear you enjoyed your stay with us and that you plan on staying again.

I just need to clarify that our hotel rooms are at the front of the building and ALL overlook the ocean. We also have many one, two and three bedroom apartments at the front overlooking the ocean. At the rear of the property are our 2 bedroom garden terraces and while very spacious and modern don't have an ocean view.

We look forward to seeing you next time.

I stayed here for the Port Macquarie triathlon and it was the perfect place. The apartment was huge even though it was only for two people! It was quiet, clean, more than comfortable and positioned perfectly walking distance from the town centre and race precinct. There were complimentary beautiful handmade chocolates in the room, as well as a fully kitted out kitchen. The rooms are quiet and the beds very comfortable - best pre-race sleep I've ever had! The staff were very helpful, even storing all my bags and bike in their office while I went out for brekky on my last day. Downstairs is Milkbar which is great for breakfast and Scampi's who do wonderful seafood. All in all the perfect stay, can't speak highly enough of this place!

It's great to hear that you loved your apartment and the chocolates. We are also pleased that you had a great night's sleep - something quite important before a triathalon!

We look forward to welcoming you again next time.

We love the Observatory at Port Macquarie so much that we have stayed there three times in the last 7 years and wont stay anywhere else in Port Macquarie. I have searched for alternatives there but nothing seems to beat the atmosphere, room size, value, quality, modernity of The Observatory. We are not the type of people to repeat visit a place so this is truly awesome value quality. We always stay in the Terraces as they suit our young family. However I have looked at the two bedroom apartments on the beach side of The Observatory and these rooms are just as beautiful, however the views of the beach are stunning.

All the apartment rooms are huge and the decor is modern and comfy. The reception staff are gorgeous and are very helpful.

We love the fact the Observatory has an indoor pool as well as two beaches across the road. It is also located near some of the best restaurants like "The Stunned Mullet" and the "Fusion 7."

If you haven't been to Port Macquarie it is definitely worth visiting. Things to do would be to hire a boat and going fishing on the river for a few hours, go for a camel ride on the beach, visit Billabong and see the snow leapords and also visit Timbertown (all these things are awesome). We also took a 15 minute drive south to visit North Brother Mountain, the views here are truly spectacular.

We love Port Macquarie, the people are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and there are lots of nice place to just relax and have a good time.
