“The Observatory is the best place to stay in Port Macquarie”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 10, 2012

We love the Observatory at Port Macquarie so much that we have stayed there three times in the last 7 years and wont stay anywhere else in Port Macquarie. I have searched for alternatives there but nothing seems to beat the atmosphere, room size, value, quality, modernity of The Observatory. We are not the type of people to repeat visit a place so this is truly awesome value quality. We always stay in the Terraces as they suit our young family. However I have looked at the two bedroom apartments on the beach side of The Observatory and these rooms are just as beautiful, however the views of the beach are stunning.

All the apartment rooms are huge and the decor is modern and comfy. The reception staff are gorgeous and are very helpful.

We love the fact the Observatory has an indoor pool as well as two beaches across the road. It is also located near some of the best restaurants like "The Stunned Mullet" and the "Fusion 7."

If you haven't been to Port Macquarie it is definitely worth visiting. Things to do would be to hire a boat and going fishing on the river for a few hours, go for a camel ride on the beach, visit Billabong and see the snow leapords and also visit Timbertown (all these things are awesome). We also took a 15 minute drive south to visit North Brother Mountain, the views here are truly spectacular.

We love Port Macquarie, the people are friendly, the atmosphere is relaxed and there are lots of nice place to just relax and have a good time.

One night stay with great views over the beach. Some noise from neighbouring apartment reduced our enjoyment - could clearly hear children, shower running etc etc.
Staff were very nice, welcoming & very helpful. Would definitely stay here again.
WiFi is $5 but very low download limit.

We were travelling down the coast and were lucky enough to have walked into The Observatory and secure the last room. Our 2 night stay was very comfortable but slightly cramped as we were only able to score a hotel room with an enclosed balcony. While we could see and hear the surf, our view was limited. I can imagine that this accommodation would be the best or close to the best on offer in Port Macquarie but I recommend that should you be planning to stay there book in advance so you are sure to be able to take advantage of the ocean views on offer. i had a quick look at the apartment attached to our room and that looked very roomy, comfortable and had a great view from the open balcony and living area. There are two restaurants located below. Our experience with the restaurant "Scampis" was not a happy one but I can recommend the "Milkbar" for delicious breakfast.

Room Tip: Book ahead.

Thank you for your lovely review.

You are correct the apartments are more roomy which is great if you are staying a few nights as they have a full kitchen. The hotel rooms have a King sized bed with ocean views through an exclosed balcony and offer great value for an overnight or two night stay.

We look forward to seeing you next time.

We stayed one night at The Observatory on the way home from the far North Coast. The hotel seemed quite new and our room was excellent. We had a great view of the ocean and coastline to the north, and enjoyed the walk along the breakwater into town. The room had a king-size bed and attractive bathroom. There were even plates and cutlery provided if you wanted to eat in.

We paid an extra $4 for the Couples Indulgence offer and received a bottle of wine, chocolates, a fruit platter, free wi-fi and a late checkout time. This must be the bargain of the century! This hotel is highly recommended and we would definitely stay there again.

My husband and I recently enjoyed a few days break in Port Macquarie. We originally booked the Hotel Room - Ocean View and were pleased to find out we were upgraded to a one bed ocean view room.

The room was very clean, spacious and the bed comfortable. It had everything needed for a few days break and the views of town beach were fantastic. On top of this the location was great with two restaurants very close and an easy stroll into the centre of town.

It was relaxing to go to sleep with the sound of the ocean. We will definitely stay at the Observatory when we next visit Port Macquarie.

As a travelling sales rep I see alot of hotels and motels and none have made me look forward to my trip north like The Observatory! Every time I've arrived at reception after a long drive looking like a dishevelled zombie the staff are always so welcoming they never fail to put a smile on my face. And the rooms and view are just... wow... I feel so comfortable staying here, every thing is clean and beautifully set out and I love being able to leave my balcony door open and fall asleep to the sound of the waves.

This is my home away from home!
