“Great location, although not luxurious”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 30, 2011

Went during the holidays so expectedly there was a very "family" orientated atmosphere~ kids were bombing in the pool and some crying in the hallways. The place wasn't 'bad' but could do with a 'face lift' the furniture and overall image was a bit outdated (esp the bathrooms). The location however was great, not smack bang in the middle of the CBD but had all the neccassary shops across the road. Would probably not recommend for couples, but for families it would be a great holiday destination

We stayed at Sails Resort 1 night on a return trip from Queensland, the Hotel is located in a very pleasant spot, The hotel is nice but is now a little rundown, bathrooms are older style, but clean. Bedlinen is modern and they have tried to revamp the rooms with new bedcovers etc. Beds were comfortable.
We chose a family room with balcony facing the water, not much privacy on your balcony.
Service in the cocktail bar was slow and there seemed not be be very many staff around.
Gardens were overgrown and needed tidying up around the tennis court and pool area.
Pool area was tidy and fenced, but outside of this area tables contained dirty glasses left over from other drinkers. No staff in existence to clear them away. These still remained on tables the next morning.
Parking onsite, but after returning from dinner we were not able to get a parking spot with the hotel and had to park outside in the street, we returned to our car later that evening to move our vehicle back into the hotel carpark.
Buffet breakfast served in the waterfront dining room was very good and plenty of food that was replenished as required.
Its a nice hotel, but it is showing its age - OK for an overnight stay.

Reception staff were very pleasant and checkin was easy.

Good clean room with fridge (mini bar) and microwave, tea/coffee. Great location on the marina and across from shopping centre and club. One negative though, the walls are pretty thin and you can hear everything going on and the passing trolley at 6.30am. Would be a great family stay. The restaurant is expensive but good with a full good quality breakfast.

We stayed in the wheechair accesible room overnight when driving from Sydney to Brisbane. After we checked in and got to our rom we considered to keep driving - and we should have!!!! It was the worst bed and the WORST sleep ever!!! Old and lumpy and just horrible. Not to mention the horrible old hard pillows and yellowed pillowcases which smelt like an old musty cupboard. The sheets were thick and scratchy as well. The whole place needs to be dozed and rebuilt. It's old and tired and in need of a serious revamp. The bathroom is hardly wheeclchair accessible as the door was very difficult to close if using a shower chair to toilet and shower. Very small indeed and no room to move. The best part was that there was a balcony (paved area which was accessible from the carpark) so my fiance could smoke with out having to go anywhere and I could get luggage from the car instead of having to walk past reception and through the hotel. Thank goodnesss for the Austar too!

We wanted to get away for the long weekend and stay in a nice resort by the water. We booked an "absolute waterfront" which turns out that its a "pool front"; however, you can get water views from rooms on the second floor (to quote reception).

To summarise our disappointment...

Run down and old.
Paint peeling from the wall.
Misrepresentation on the website - they quote 4 star on their website, is only 3 star. Pictures on the website do not represent furniture / views / quality of restaurant food
1970's decor
No toilet paper - rang reception and they told us that we had to pick it up from reception!
Mini golf was full of sand and astro grass was torn - unusable.
Restaurant food was really bad. The gourmet chicken pizza was terrible - and pizzas are not hard to get right! And avoid the "Pide"...which was just a toasted sandwich!

We paid $195 a night. By comparison Rydges was $205 (for a waterfront view) and the Observatory was $200. By comparison Sails should only charge circa $130 a night.

The only redeeming feature is the free wifi which I am using to write this review! I'm not angry... I'm just disappointed!

Don't shop off their website. Don't pay more than $140 on a long weekend. And don't get your hopes up.

Wow just read some of those reviews- i have no idea what that lady with children was talking about.
Well my stay was a pleasnt experience, drop of area then greated by friendly receptionist "sharyn" who was kind, well mannored and helpful. The inner area is lovely with ferns palms, and koi fish. Room was spacious with mini kitchen and nice bathroom.
The Spinnakers restaurant was fantastic food was great! And a great cocktail bar too.
Breakfast in the morning out in the sun by the water was really nice.
Good location the city centre is about a 5-10 min walk along te waters edge.
Though there is a Mall with a big w, woolworths macdonalds if you have kids and what not less than 5 mins away which was handy needed to get shaving cream lol.
Nice pool area too though it was a tad cold for a swim.
Anyways ill definatly be back. And have told friends and family to do the same.
few pics we found on the camera. though we didnt take any from inside the room- well none that are appropriate lol
