“Fantastic Stay!”
Reviewed September 20, 2009

We stayed at the Rydges in a 2 bedroom apartment as part of a wedding group earlier this year and couldnt have asked for a more pleasant stay.
The rooms were very clean, spacious and extremely comfortable. The apartment we stayed in consisted of 2 bedrooms. Bedroom #1 had a spacious King Bed and a walk through wardrobe which led to the ensuite. This room as well as all the other rooms in the apartment opened up onto the balcony which overlooked the river. Bedroom #2 also consisted of a King Bed and a large wardrobe. The bathroom was spacious and consisted of a bath and shower as well as a dryer and washing machine. The kitchen was quite big with a microwave, dishwasher and fridge. Cutlery and Cockery were also supplied. The dinning/lounge was spacious with a nice flat screen TV. The view of the river from our room was simply stunning. We even woke up one morning and saw dolphins frolicking in the river across from us! Priceless!!!!!
The location of this hotel is fantastic as it is a stroll away from the shops (for food and groceries) and the bay (for a nice stroll).
Also. as part of our stay, we were allocated a carspace for an extra fee. I would advise paying the little extra for the carspace since the parking is limited and metered.
All in all, we had a wonderful stay!!!!

From the moment we arrived to find no-one on reception for five minutes and then to be told that we had to park outside because the carpark was full we should have checked out. There were no trolleys or porters to help with the luggage. We had booked a river view room, but were given a river glimpse room - mainly of the carpark. When we asked if we could move because we were unhappy,we were told there were no rooms left. The next morning we went down to breakfast at 9am to be told that there would be a 20 minute wait because a large group had descended and had "cleaned them out of food". We tried to get coffee, but there were no cups. The breakfast food was sloppy, inedible mush. We left and told the reception staff that we would be checking out early. Noone seemed to care or mind or even ask why we were leaving early!! I rather go camping than stay at this hotel again.

We stayed overnight on way home from Byron Bay to Sydney. Location is superb - right on the river & easy walk to shops etc. The room was spacious, tidy and clean but unfortunately had a view over the carpark which is always disappointing when the other side of the hotel has riverviews!!
The staff were amazing - very helpful and courteous in a friendly way. We ate dinner in the restaurant after failing to find anything in town and I must say the food was absolutely wonderful - very unexpected! The pool complex is modern & great for kids. Paid underground parking from memory - being a Sunday we parked free in the street.
Would definitely stay again, but go for a high floor with views!

This was one of those experiences where you expected ordinary and received wonderful!
This hotel is perfectly positioned on a beautiful park, on the water, in the heart of Port Macquarie.

Rooms were spacious, comfortable and clean.

The highlight was breakfast. Although not the greatest variety, it was qite good. But ask for a table on the outside patio. On a nice spring or autumn morning, with the sun rising and the water glistening, there are few better ways to start the day. Here's a tip. If you book breakfast the night before through reception, you get a voucher which discounts the breakfast by about 25%!! This is not advertised so you just need to know in order to get it.

The pool was another surprise. It wasn't huge, but its elevated position, overlooking the whole harbour was spectacular. The water was just the right temperature and was a very pleasant way to while away an afternoon.

Staff were all friendly and laid back, which just added to the experience. I would definitely stay here again next time I'm in Port.

Stayed here over the Mothers Day weekend with family on the Rydges $95 stay anytime deal. Had to pay $20 per night upgrade as all cheap rooms were taken but at $115 per night thought it was OK. Fantastic Location. My only disappointment was that we did not have a balcony but the view from the large window was wonderful - right over Town green and the water. Kids swam in the pool - great pool for kids with nice pool furniture. Restaurant for dinner was nice - a little over priced but food was lovely. Parking was also a little stiff at $10 per night and limited spaces but better than trying to park outside as not much available. Breakfast was nice - pancake machine was a bit of an issue though - big line up so not such a hit with the kids having to wait so long but breakfast nice anyway with beautiful view straight over the water. Nice hotel. Would recommend you join Rydges Priority Guest for free before staying as you get internet half price and 20% off food and beverage (excluding breakfast). Staff were friendly and efficient (only had 3 towels for 4 people so buzzed reception and they bought up a couple of towels and a fresh jug of skim milk in 10 mins). Overall would definitely stay here (at special rate) as can walk everywhere and fantastic waterfront location.

On a road trip from Gold Coast to Albury we had a one night stay at this hotel.

Our room was ready early, (Bonus) which was great after being in the car for 7 hours. Located right on the river and just across the road from the major shopping centre. We found the location ideal.

Under ground parking was an additional $10, but happy to pay for the peace of mind of a secure vehicle.

The rooms were spacious and very clean. Bathroom also up to standard. We did not eat at the hotel, but had a few drinks in the bar down stairs.

All the staff at reception and in the bar were very friendly and helpful.

As a part of our Sydney - Brisbane coastal drive, we stayed at Rydges hotel in upper floor with view to parking lot entrance.

Pros:
+ Nice staff at reception and at breakfast.
+ Clean room with small balcony.
+ Location.
+ Shopping center, good restaurant next to this hotel.
+ Quiet room, upper floor though.

Cons:
- Room was too basic, it was clean but not enough comfortable. My spouse liked it, I didn´t. It needs upgrade.
- Tasteless breakfast, more suitable for families with children.
- A bit dirty (dust, sand) balcony with some insects (insects are common in AU). Also pool had them too.

This hotel has an excellent location. It is functional and okay but it is a bit lame as a property.
