“Expected a lot...didn't quite deliver.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 4, 2010

Halfway through a camperven road trip we needed a special dinner to spoil ourselves. All reviews pointed to Roberts when in the hunter valley.
The building itself is fantastic and really set a good atmosphere.
We had a trainee waiter looking after us at first and while he had good intentions did not make us feel we were at a top shelf restaurant. A more competent waitress took our orders but was not amazing despite being nice. It's funny how these things only seem to matter when you are paying over $40 per main, but they do
onto the food... We shared the calamari to start, it was a bit tough but the simple flavours worked well otherwise. A little disappointment.
We then had lamb assiette and venison on crispy polenta for mains the lamb was just perfect with generous but not obscene servings. The venison was cooked properly as medium rare and while the flavours were quite nice, this dish was well behind the lamb. The sides of chips and vegetables were relatively inexpensive and generous in size but nothing to write home about otherwise.
Unfortunately we had no room for dessert because they looked pretty great
overall we were expecting a lot but were left a little disappointed. I would probably go back but after trying several others in the area first...and I'd have the lamb!

“Superb!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 1, 2010

We had dinner on New Years Eve at Roberts and it was perfect!
The setting and layout of the restaurant is very old world, beautiful and plush and the service was outstanding ( than so much Nik!)
The food was outstanding and was one of the best meals my husband and I have had in a long time.

We will be back each time we come to the Hunter!

“Great food and service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 7, 2009

An excellent menu with a great range of produce. The 5 scallops were just so tasty. The lamb cutlets were excellent however I asked for medium rare and in hind sight should have asked for rare as they were a bit overdone for my liking. The creme brulee was just magic. Did not realise that if I had mentioned an ad in the Pokolbin resaurant guide I would have received a free bottle of wine. Make sure you mention the ad.

“Fabulous”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2009

Found this place by accident when exploring the Hunter vineyards, Didn't have a booking but that wasn't a problem. Staff were freindly and attentive. The menu was not to big and the food to die for. If your in the area and want a really special meal try it.

“Fantastic food and service in lovely surroundings.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2009

I have dined at Roberts many times, at different times of the year and at different times of the day.

The food is always awesome. The service is always exceptional. The atmosphere and surroundings are always cosy and relaxing.

Save up and really treat yourself.
