“Always a great meal”
Reviewed October 27, 2012

Visited the Hunter region again last week and had a meal at our favourite Il Cacciatore Restaurant - was as good as ever - not to be missed on a visit to Pokolbin & there own wine Partners Pick is a pretty good drop too. Had to bring some home with us.

“Food to Die for!”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Firstly let me say that dining at this restaurant was fantastic. My wife and I booked a table for 6.30pm and were immediately shown to our table and seated by a friendly wait person (we have to be politically correct, lol). She gave us menus and unfortunately the wine list broke as she was putting it down so she hurried away, obtained another and left us to ponder the menu.

Everything sounded so enticing, but as we don't normally have entrees, we decided on the Warm Garlic Bread just to start our juices flowing. It came out as a mini loaf of Italian style bread with a crisp bottom and cut almost all the way into slices. We finished the cutting side of things and slowly devoured it.

For Mains my wife ordered Braised Rolled Pork Belly. It came with spiced carrot puree, spring vegetables, crackling and pan juices. The small taste my wife gave me, Pork belly cooked to perfection, moist, flavoursome along with the puree and accompanying items was absolutely delicious. I ordered the Chef’s Fresh Fish Special. Ocean trout with crisp skin, prawns some vegetables and an indescribable sauce that is making my mouth water as I write this article!

My wife did not want dessert but being a mad chocolate fiend I had to go for the Tiramisu. This
traditional Italian dessert of coffee soaked sponge finger biscuits, mascarpone and chocolate really made the night, topped with two cappuccinos what else could one ask? Nothing. All in all, a reasonable fare that didn't cost the earth only $136.00 with a few glasses of wine as well.

“Great local place - comfortable, with great food”
Reviewed October 16, 2012

Monday night is always a bit difficult for dining out - usually the best places are a good pub as restaurants open on a Monday are few and far between. Il Cacciatore is worthwhile visiting - great food, a nice atmosphere and friendly service. The wine menu is full of good local wines and the waitresses are very helpful with their recommendations. Not a late night place but welcoming and good value.

“Amazing meal”

The service was great, the meal was spectacular - best pork belly I have ever had. I also had a lovely tortellini entree as well and the wine was a lovely local wine.

“Didn't disappoint”
Reviewed September 20, 2012

After searching around for a restaurant open on a Tuesday night we were a little skeptical when we got hold of a booking at Il Cacciatore. We were pleasantly surprised. The service was great, food was definitely freshly cooked and could not be faulted. Bread was great, risotto top class and squid ink pasta was a great find, first time we have seen it since we were in Italy. We will definitely be back
