“Great Food, Horrible Service...”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

We were trying to find a place for dinner that wouldn't require a second mortgage to pay for it. Our hotel recommended Oishii, and since we like both Thai and Japanese food, we decided to go there.

The food was good, but the portions were a bit on the small side. The atmosphere was essentially non-existent: battleship grey paint, red light fixtures, and some kimonos on the walls for "decor."

But it's the service that really deserves some attention. There was none. We waited a good 10 minutes for someone to even stop at the table, and after that, the only way we had any interaction with any of the waitresses was if we flagged them down. Truly unacceptable.

Bottom line: this is an affordable option in Pokolbin with good food, but don't expect any kind of service.

“Average food and service for one of only Asian restaurant at Hunter Valley”
Reviewed October 3, 2012

It is one of the only Asian restaurants in Hunter Valley, and being at Tempus Two winery and its convenient location, there are a lot of visitors there. The price is not expensive compared to the other fine restaurants. But then the food are not that special either.

The chicken teppanyaki is pretty good, the seafood teppanyaki not so good as the fried seafood is a bit soggy.

There are lot of people during the Labour Day holiday and the service level goes down with it. We ordered tempura but it never really come, and by the time it comes, we already got the bill! Also it took them 15 minutes for them to give us the bill!

Therefore if you want a fine dining experience, avoid here. But if you stay at Hunter Valley for a while and need some more affordable Asian food, then this is the place for you.

“Weird ambience but food good”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

Very offputting when you walk in-zero or even less atmosphere. Lots of concrete and high ceilings.Service ordinary as well BUT the food was quite good. My eldest son had massaman curry, The youngest had a chichen and rice dish. Both said they were very good. I had a prawn teppan yaki which was also very good. My wife had a curry also.
Overall a strange combination of poor service, zero atmosphere and yet OK meals.

“Fresh, delicious sushi”
Reviewed September 27, 2012 via mobile

The sushi is SO fresh. Unbelievable creamy salmon was to die for. Get the duck carpaccio, so melt-in-the-moth tender. The California rolls are divine. No seafood extender here. They are rolled in salmon roe. Divine.
