Had the 3 course lunch $95 there and it was fantastic
For entree we actually added one more, oyster ($28 extra) foie gras and quail egg and wagyu
For main we had wagyu and emu fillet, with three sides: potato purée, roasted pumpkin and potato panko. One side is $9.5 extra
For dessert we had cheesecake and chocolate and vanilla ice cream
All dishes were very delicious!
The service was good but it was just a little bit noisy in the restaurant.

My partner and I often dine at “fancy” restaurants and this was our favourite by far! The service from a Andre and Karen were nothing short of perfect, classy yet social. We decided to have the 7 course tasting menu paired with wines. It was amazing. As big eaters we are always worried about portion sizes, both of us left completely full and almost had to be rolled out. I can’t wait to come back here again and try some of the other dishes. I’ll say it again, this was by far the best restaurant experience I’ve ever had, food, service and restaurant ambiance all included.

Our family of three adults and two children visited “Circa 1876” last Saturday for lunch. There is no a-la-carte menu for this restaurant; instead patrons are offered 2-course, 3-course or 5-course chef’s tasting menu options. Each of the adults in our party opted for the 2-course option at $75 per head.

For the entrees, we chose the Seared Sea Scallops (three quite large scallops and very enjoyable), and Foie Gras & Blueberry. Restaurant owners would do well to remember that a “pretty” plate of food decorated with flower petals, leaves, and other such flippery does not necessarily equate to value for money in the eyes of its patrons!

While all servings for lunch were quite small, the foie gras was particularly so with each of the four little cubes measuring no more than 1cm x 1cm. Also on the plate was one croute, plus a little of each of blueberry compote, smoked aligot and blueberry gel. We understand that foie gras is expensive but assuming we were paying between $30-35 for each entrée, those four little cubes could have been a tad larger or dusted with gold!

For the mains we had Hunter Valley Lamb Rump (flavoursome but unexpectedly chewy, giving the molars a good workout), Cherry-Glazed Duck Breast (nice flavour but the two portions were smaller than anticipated), and Sous Vide Chicken Breast (chicken had little flavour but the other elements on the plate, fortunately, did have flavour).

For dessert, one of our party had the Bailey’s and White Chocolate Cheesecake. This was considered to be delicious.

We all felt the service was not consistent with what we expect from an award-winning restaurant. Firstly, although the restaurant was less than half full, we had to ask for service on a number of occasions.

Secondly, we found the staff to be quite pretentious. Why are sincerity and friendliness not considered to be important in staff training for this restaurant? Our waitress had obviously been well-rehearsed in describing what was being put down in front of us but it was decidedly annoying to have each course prefaced by, “This is your beautiful …”. Shouldn’t the customers be the ones to decide the quality of the food for which they are paying?

Sadly, it seems from other TripAdvisor reviews that we are not the only family to have had a negative experience with Circa 1876.

We dined tonight at your restaurant and I would say we were pretty Dissapointed!!!
We had such a fabulous day wine tasting and were so excited to go for dinner, when we arrived we noticed how Noisy your restaurant was. The service was a real let down, when you order the 5 course meal you shouldn’t fee rushed, I shouldn’t have to wait 20mins to get my water refilled.
The food was nice, just the pairing of wine wasn’t well matched.
Another thing is one shouldn’t have 3 glasses per person on the table, I’m not doing a tasting..
After you spend so much money you would imagine you walk away feeling Wowed and sadly this didn’t happens at all..
