In June you want to see and feel a decent crackling fire and The Mill tick that box
The restaurant is large and the menu had a decent selection plus the flexibility to choose dishes as entree or main and a course package
Wine was mostly Hunter and a few selections from elsewhere
Overall a great result and we enjoyed the night and the service

The food here is excellent. The idea is small portions so you can try lots of dishes. We only eat small amounts so this suited us. You can order up to seven courses if you want but I don't know how you would fit it in. The flavors in the dishes we had over two nights was superb.

We had a reservation for 7.30 and arrived early and were turned away as they could not accommodate us before our reservation time......even though only 3 tables had patrons. We understand about timely orders, staffing etc however to be turned away at the door and asked to come back in 30 minutes was a gross insult. We would have been happy to sit at the bar with a glass of wine. Most unprofessional. We did not return and did not bother accepting the hotel’s offer of a free two course meal the following night. It was my partner’s birthday away and this behaviour of the restaurant was unforgettably disgraceful. Would never return.

Perhaps the first restaurant we’ve been to in Australia that really met the standards of the best anywhere.

Food and its preparation, staff attitude, knowledge, suggestions and performance and, of course, wine offerings were just outstanding.

The location was great, with an expansive view over vineyards.

It was my wife’s birthday and a very classy touch was added, with just a small candle in the dessert (not the embarrassing sparkler version that everyone in the place notices) with “happy birthday” written on the plate in chocolate sauce.

Very reasonably priced for the quality; highly recommended

A word of caution - if you want to try the 7 course degustation lunch, I would suggest that you don't eat for several days beforehand. We had the 5 courses and left feeling like we couldn't eat until the next day, but with feelings of complete satisfaction. We were made very welcome in this top class facility, with a 1.30pm lunch that ended at 4.30pm. The time periods between dishes were perfect - not so long that you felt neglected, but not so short that you felt rushed. It must be hard to work out the perfect balance but The Mill has nailed it. This was my first time dining here and my wife's second. Every aspect of our lunch was perfect, from the welcome we received, the quality of the food, the service and our overall experience. I can't rate, nor recommend The Mill highly enough.
