We arrived on a very quiet night and really enjoyed the ambiance, food, wine and the service. It felt like a French Country Inn.

We stopped in for lunch on a rather quiet week day attracted by the roaring fire. There were two other tables of people in the restaurant. The atmosphere was a bit weird, indoor gardens on one side of us created a cool damp and a roaring fire on the other. The service was friendly and after ordering the slow roast lamb we were told it would take 40 minutes. We were happy to wait this time and chat as we weren't in a hurry and just wanted to enjoy. However it took close to an hour for our lamb with various trimmings to arrive - which was a bit too long to wait - 40 mins yep ok - 58mins not so much. The food was well cooked and delicious but not show stopper and so didn't really represent great value for the price paid. Overall a nice experience but we aren't busting to return.

Wow big prices make for big expectations and this evening fell well short!

4 of us had dinner on a Saturday night and from a frosty reception when we walked in, to absent service and then sub-standard food it was a very disappointing visit.

Lowlights - med rare steak that was almost blue, super dry pastry and duck confit...

On the upside, the cheese platter was lovely!

All in all a restaurant charging these prices should deliver much better food.

Bypass this establishment!!!

We were sat next to the fireplace on a quiet night in July 2014 and had an incredible meal. I recommend the sirloin steak or the lamb, both with the rosemary jus were absolutely devine. You pay for it, but that's to be expected in the Hunter Valley.

If you are ever up in the Hunter Valley you have to give this restaurant a go. My wife and I stumbled upon the Cellar Restaurant during the day and went in to enquire about a reservation, We were greeted by three very pleasant waitresses{off to a good start} the girls remarked that they were nearly fully booked and said they could fit us in around seven O'Clock, a perfect time.
Just before 7 we arrived at the Cellar Restaurant again to be greeted upon entry by one of those waitresses we had meet earlier, "Stephanie" we were shown to our table and asked if we would like some water, Stephanie arrived back within a short time with our sparkling water and also with our menus to which Stephanie proceeded to go through the menu with us,decisions decisions decisions and with the decision now made Stephanie took our order.
Bread, oil, and dip arrived promptly as did the Morsels, Entree's our selections included Little salmon fish cakes with aioli, Crispy line caught calamari with orange and fennel, Yorkshire pudding with braised wagyu skirt and the Mains 250 gram Cape Grim grass fed sirloin, Five large char grilled Coffs Harbour Prawns {shell on} and our selection of sides included Parsnip, kipper potatoes and pumpkin.
All the meals arrived hot, well presented, generous servings and with a smile. {please see photos} Now as for desert even with two of my favourite dishes on offer we could not have fitted in another mouthful in and just so you can see the tempting deserts I took a photo of the menu for you to be tempted by
Now after reading this review and seeing the tempting photos of our meals attached, don't have any second thoughts give it a go I am sure you wont be disappointed. One last tip when you book try to get on Stephanie's tables
