“Beautiful Setting, Lovely property”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2013

Great property located in an idyllic location just a bit outside of the pokolbin tourist centre.
The surrounding is lovely with vineyards and green hills.
Lobby is cousy and the reception staff is amazing, smiley, helpful and very professional - well done.
Rooms are large in size, nice high and comfy beds overlooking the garden. (at least ours)
Carpet is in need of a freshen up, furniture dated but acceptable, bathroom very large and clean only problem a loud and annoying noise coming from the vent every time you turn on the light.
Breakfast - the set up is lovely however the quality of the food very average and service very slow - waited 20 minutes to get a coffee.

Overall this is a very nice property and the location makes it an ideal place to spend your weekend in the Hunter!

We stayed here recently as relatives had their reception here. The reception and food were beautiful and the staff were great. The room would be ok for $160 a night but not for $375. The breakfast was average at best and I noticed on our bill that we were charged $45 each for very basic buffet breakfast with bad coffee in flasks. The staff were lovely at the breakfast but it was clearly understaffed.
Stay at the sebel - much better value and nicer rooms.
Great reception venue but don't get your guests to stay here.

Thank you for your feedback, it is pertinent to all business and appreciate the kind words you noted regarding the wedding reception and generally re our staff, which I am sure you would agree this extends across the resort, again a point you comment upon for staff at breakfast.

Re the $375 tariff, rates are a very subjective issue, as we do charge $625 for a two night stay weekend, (as per our web site) and while slightly biased, believe that you will not find a better location for beauty, tranquillity and resort features including as Cellar Door, Cheese Factory, two different food outlets, easy walking access to 4 cellars doors, kangaroos grazing at the back doors and with our views across acres of vines to the Brokenback Ranges, we are total unique in the entire Hunter Valley, the Hunter in one stop!

As rule we do not sell a single Saturday nights, usually we have a two nights including the Friday standard, however to assist wedding couples, we do offer the facility for a one night booking at $375 to assist with guests who may night be able to justify 2 nights, or the $500 special tariff,( 20% discount for a two night’s accommodation associated with wedding parties, we also allow 5 single Saturday nights per wedding). Therefore the one night stay on the Saturday night is at premium price as we try to offset some of the lack of tariff from not selling the Friday night, however @ $375 it is still a 30% discount on the already 30% discount( $500) being our wedding guest tariff 2 nights, which was the alternative, although a greater rate for one night.

Regarding breakfast It certainly appears to me the breakfast was not our normal standard and I apologise for this, on investigation, we had our normal team on for our busiest day of the week, when we usually serve between 80 and 100 guests for breakfast. Sometime when we have a wedding we do find that guests will all agree to meet at the one time and then instead of the 90 guests being spread over 2 hours we find that they may all arrive at say 9.30 which occurred on the day in question.
As the restaurant is large enough( we seat 100) we do not ask guests to wait outside, however this may cause it to appear that we may be understaffed , however we believe it is better to get seat our guests as soon as possible, even if it appears to be a little slower, it is faster than asking them wait outside with reduced seating, as can happen at some other hotels. It is a difficult blend and I apologise that we did not handle this as smoothly as we should have and that the quality of the coffee was not to your liking. I do not have your details, however would certainly like to make some amends for this and would ask that you contact me in order we make some rectification.
Additionally our standard pricing for breakfast again as per our web site and menu’s in the restaurant is $30.35 on the weekend, your comment of $45 however is understood, as when you looked at your account it showed breakfast at $45 per person, however this is only an internal booking keeping process generated from our Front Office system and does not reflect in any way what we actually charge for breakfast, however I appreciate that it is confusing and obviously leaving an unpleasant taste given that your experience was unsatisfactory, we have amended this to avoid such confusion in the future.

Once again many thanks and my apologies for your disappointment, I trust you will make contact and allow me to make some amends.

My daughter recently got married at Tuscany, it was the best decision we have ever made. The staff are exceptional at their jobs, nothing is to much trouble.
Phil went above and beyond and helped make the day perfect.
The resort is lovely everyone of the guests commented how great everything was, the food for the reception is the best I have ever had at a wedding.
Anyone looking for a venue for their wedding should book at Tuscany beautiful views for the wedding photos and beautiful people working there, Thank you all so much we will definitely be back for another stay.

We recently traveled to the valley for my birthday. I have to say there are previous mixed reviews I was hesitant about the booking, but it turned out to be a lovely stay, relaxing, in a great location.

We used a Living Social coupon and the staff treated us like any other customer (sometimes you get worse service with a coupon) they were friendly, + we got freebies and in general the voucher was really good value. Keep in mind that accommodation and dining at the Hunter Valley in general are really overpriced- expect A$100 pp for dinner, for so-so food, anywhere. The demand is really high, and they have limited offer.

This is not a 5 star resort with all luxuries, and most of the lodging options at the valley aren't either. You are paying for a relaxing quiet atmosphere (not hundreds of rooms, only some) , beautiful settings, limited availability, etc.

PROs:
Used a Living social voucher cutting our cost by half
Free breakfast (not the best, just decent, but free!)
EXCELLENT location. quiet street, go for a walk at dawn and dusk and you'll see tons of kangaroos around! and a beautiful sunset/sunrise! Still located in the middle of everything that you need to visit in the area
Relaxed atmosphere, dog friendly. expect seeing some pooches around.
Fantastic private terrace, sit outside and enjoy the nature! lots of different birds, sounds, other than that calm and quiet.
Room had extra beds, and was decent sized.
Bathroom was OK, not sure why so many complaints about it being outdated? yes it used a septic system, it is not the same system as in the city (DUH)

CONs

Yes, there are some stains in the carpet. if you walk outside, expect to come back with muddy shoes (pond nearby). So will the children. Go for a bike ride and it will be the same case, unless it really hasn't rained for a while. You have access to this giant backyard, green everywhere, it would be ridiculous to try to keep a spotless carpet!

Yes, there are insects in the terrace, like ants (all colors lol). It's in the middle of a giant garden/pond. There were no mosquitoes or any scary crawlers.

Breakfast is average at best (but it was free for us) Lovely views included

Restaurants are poorly rated. So many options around that we did not try for dinner.

If you go on a busy weekend (festival for example) and get to pay full price for the room, you'll feel is a complete rip off. It would be the same case everywhere in the valley. I'd say avoid those dates if you can.

Internet is slow. You should not need it though, you are in the valley!

Thumbs up if you are looking for a relaxing stay, with beautiful views in a great location, at a reasonable price (for Pokolbin) . If a spotless carpet or 5 star dining is a must for you, stay elsewhere.

Room Tip: 3xx rooms overlook the "back" where we saw the kangaroos coming from. Other rooms I belie...

This is our third time we have stayed at the Tuscany and I would stay there again but just don't expect to receive high standards of service. Just relax and don't be in a hurry. Having said that I have to add that individually the staff members were all very friendly and willing to assist. The rooms are large and more than adequate. We had a nice setting out side the back doors with excellent views. The main meal room looks great. The cafe is more than acceptable and both have excellent views. It's a beautiful piece of real estate. But I am not convinced that it is a Wine Estate? Where is their Tuscany Wine to buy?

Room Tip: I think that all rooms are equal.

I and 4 others stayed at this self styled resort in the Hunter Valley. We have been there before. Checking it out for a future event we are organising with the resorts knowledge we were given rooms that were specified to have three beds in one. This included a double and a rollout bed contained in the lounge. The bed was rolled out and the top cover was felt pen signed to say " Do not use broken". Our group swapped rooms. All beds squeeked on any movement. The late afternoon was to be spent outside our rooms but were met with the caretaker having spinklers on and cleaning the pool. The outside awning leading from our room was held up by a rotten or white anted brace and our group decided to move from this position just in case it collapsed.

Our next bad experience was at dinner. We booked for 5 for 7.30pm at the onsite restaurant The Mill Restaurant. We placed our orders and the first entre was served over 1 hour later. The meal was substandard with either being overcooked or poorly plated up. Not all entre's came at the same time with wait staff seeking clarification as to who had ordered what plate. The course being the mains were served over another hour after that. The meals cam at separate times and were again were either overcooked (beef), burnt (duck) or poorly plated up.

When I made my comments all I could get was "there has been some confusion in the kitchen". No compensation was offered except "I'm sorry".

Next came breakfast. Well needless to say the order was incorrectly made. Brewed coffee was extra and certain breads were extra.

I made my complaint to the person in charage on check out who expressed surprise and a need to know comment. All I got was "I do apologise, I am so sorry". No other offer was made, no explanation, no compensation no thought about the event for over 80 people we were surveying the site for.

My suggestion to anyone thinking of staying at this venue is to think again. There are countless other places in the Hunter Valley that surpass this place. I suspect any venue would be better. And you will save money as well.
