“Who'd have thought?”

Our hotel was busy with a function so we wandered across the road into the sunset and found this great place. The bar was busy with a (night before the) wedding party but the barman was great. He didn't mind my rugby shirt and shorts even though everyone else was dressed up (this is Australia after all so I was the one correctly dressed). A simple menu of tapas with an Austalian Thai angle. Not Tuscan, but really good and served in good time even though the kitchen must have been very busy. Nice cocktails followed by a couple of glasses of the flagship Hunter Valley Shiraz and the up and coming Hunter Valley Pinot Grigio. Check it out. You'll come away thinking, who'd have thought ...

Recently I had a group stay at the Tuscany Wine Estate Resort and they cannot stop singing the properties praise. Never have I come across a property so willing to assist and so welcoming for that matter. From start to finish the staff were friendly, professional and efficient. Highlights were definitely the location, dinners (in particular the bbq) and lunch packs which many remarked were of "fine dining" quality. Tuscany Wine Estate Resort went above and beyond to make sure my group had a memorable stay and therefore I do not hesitate in recommending this property whether it is for an overnight stay, weekend getaway, special occasion or conference.

A special thank you must go to the General Manager Kirsty Woods who was so incredibly patient and helpful with all the last minute requests and changes.

Thank you for taking the time to offer such wonderful feedback. It makes what we do worthwhile to know all of our team contributed in such a positive way and they were able to enjoy the offerings not only of Tuscany but the Hunter Valley.

We are looking forward to your return.

Yours sincerely

I recently had my 50th birthday function at the Brockenback Bar, we booked it exclusively & what a great experience. The venue was perfect, the food amazing, the service 2nd to none. My friends are still raving about the food. There was nothing about the night that could have been done any better. I am so pleased we chose the venue & Phil the bar manager went above & beyond with his set up & decorations. I would recommend this venue to anyone.

Me and my husband stayed in the Vinyard room, and could not fault the place the rooms were big and clean, the bed was very comfy it felt like home. We ate every morning at the Mill which was beautiful. We booked a wine tour through reception and we had a great time lots of laughs and wine tasting. The staff were very friendly and very helpful, our overall thought of the Tuscany big thumbs up we would stay again.

We were disappointed with the overall experience, as the property is described as a 'resort' , however, it is really more of a 'motel'. In spite of having read some of the negative comments contained in this section, we decided to still give it a try, but regret having done so, as we were celebrating a special occasion, and could have stayed at a different (and better) property.
The staff were extremely pleasant, and the views/grounds were magnificent, but the room and bathroom were fairly basic, and are in need of an update.
We had initially booked our celebratory dinner at The Mill restaurant but, due to the negative comments left by others, we decided to cancel and try somewhere else. We did however have breakfast at The Mill, and found the buffet to be mediocre, to say the least. Once again though, the staff member was very attentive and pleasant. Unfortunately, we will not be recommending it to our friends.

Hi Mike and Clare
Thank you for your feedback; glad to hear you found the staff pleasant and attentive; we do pride ourselves on this!
I cannot really understand what made your experience overall disappointing? Particularly given you didn’t eat with us and allowed what others have said to say you; but that is what social media can do. Shame the buffet you felt to be mediocre; would welcome you to have expand on this in our guest questionnaire or thank you letters.
Our location is beautiful, we market ourselves as:
Tuscany is an intimate mix; a touch of Italy and Australia, located with views second to none in the Hunter Region 2 hours from Sydney. This 4 star property has a casual setting with 38 guest rooms which offer full service; The Mill Restaurant something more formal, The Brokenback Bar for relaxed dining, takeaway opposed to room service. The Olive Grove rooms are furnished with a Tuscan feel or aspirational manner, whilst the Vineyard View rooms are a comfortable simple room taking full advantage of the vineyard vista; flat screen TV’s and wireless throughout all guest rooms.
Located on site are cheese factory and cellar door, for those who are a more active there is an outdoor swimming pool and tennis court. Our friend team can organise wine tours and in room massages; please ask on booking.
The Olive Grove rooms have parking at your front door and the Vineyard View Rooms have under cover car parks.
One of the added benefits of this little gem is the ability to bring your friendly furry friend; there is a fee associated and must be declared on booking; there are a limited number of rooms available.

It is a shame you won’t recommend us to your friends and if you do change your mind to revisit, please let me know; we would welcome you back and I would personally like to look after you.

Well wishes and thanks Kirsty Woods

We stayed in a Vineyard view room which was a very pleasant view. The room was nice until I went to use the bin in the bathroom which hadden been emptied from previous occupants. Went to the bar for a pizza or 2 and they were tasty. Came to having a cuppa there were no spoons nor bin to put teabags in. The bed was comfortable, breakfast fine and thought we got what we paid for. Go back again, dont think so will try Mudgee next time.

Hi Pam S
Thank you for your comments, astonished the bin was not emptied, and not sure how there was not a bin to put the tea bags in. Ridiculous not to have tea spoons; no excuse & should not happen. Please accept my apologies. Glad you liked the bed and breakfast. Please do come back and let me know when you make a booking; I would like you to try the Olive Grove room too. Mudgee is lovely, but I am sure if you do go that way you will enjoy the fruits of the lower Hunter Valley.
Thank you Kirsty Woods

We stayed one night at the Tuscany Wine Estate Resort to celebrate our 9 year anniversary. Just to note we are young. We met in high school and we are usually pretty forgiving when it comes to most things but this stay really left a bad taste in my mouth and kinda put a damper on what should have been a great time.

We arrived at the resort a few hours early. We didnt expect to be checked in or anything, some places do, some don't no biggy. We were greeted by the staff member Belinda. When we walked in she smiled and said "would you like to check in?" We happily said yes and then promptly she said "yea.. no, you will have to come back after two." It wasnt what she said, it was the way it was said. She said it in a really rude manner, didnt offer us something to do, didnt check if the room was ready. I dont know if it was a bad day for her or what but it really upset my girlfriend and put a dent in what had been a great day so far.

The room looked ok, nothing spectacular. We were in the olive room. We jumped on the rather large and comfy looking bed to find it squeaked with every little movement. The mattress was as hard as a rock. It was actually two queen mattresses slabbed on top of each other in a large bed frame.

I then went to make a coffee for the both of us. The cutlery was filthy, obviously not washed or checked when cleaned from the previous guests. I made the walk back to Belinda to get some more sanitary cutlery.

I went to have a shower in the evening. There were black bugs crawling around in the shower/bath. Oh and the idea of the shower bath is rather impractical. It was a pretty small bath and when trying to have a shower you kind of had to stand on the sloped bit of the bath. Just choose one or the other.

That night when we got into bed we found the sheets were really coarse. Not the usual quality you come to expect from a four star resort. We both had trouble sleeping due to the hard rickety bed and the coarse sheets, my girlfriend woke up with a pretty sore back.

On checkout we saw Belinda again. There was a bit of a line and she was under pressure to get through everyone. Maybe another person could have helped. She had the same attitude towards us on checkout but I noticed that she was much friendlier with the other guests. I dont know if its because we are not the usual middle age guests they are used to but just a little bit of customer service wouldnt have gone astray.

For the 9 years we've been together around 6 or 7 of our anniversaries have been spent at the Hunter Valley. We have stayed at the Crown, Lovedale Cottages, Hunter Resort, Leisure Inn and a few more. We try and pick new accommodation every year to keep things fresh and find new places. This was by far the worst place I think I've ever stayed at and I could have probably overlooked most of its faults if we didnt get off to such a bad start. I usually read reviews on here and think, it cant be that bad and for every place weve stayed it hasnt until now.

We wont be back and I dont recommend staying here. We didnt have a great time and couldnt wait to leave.

Room Tip: The olive rooms are apparently nicer.

Hi Kieran

Yes first impressions do last. Yes check is from 2.00pm and if we can check you in at the time of arrival no matter what it is we will do so pending the room is available. But as you noted this was not a problem?

We are sorry you did not find the firmness of the bed to your liking, it is a wooden sleigh bed which has slats, with an ensemble base and mattress, with a 10 cm thick feather and down bed topper. Bedding is one of those things which is very personal and some people love it and others don't. It is interesting we have some return guests in currently and they are in the Vineyard View rooms and commented only last night how his wife prefers the Olive Grove beds.

In relation to the sheets; the same linen company supplies a couple of the hotels you have mentioned in your feedback. We do not launder our own linen this is done by a contractor who provides linen to numerous properties within the Hunter Valley Wine Country area. However we have passed onto them your thoughts.

It is unusual that you would have filthy cutlery and I understand your comment appeared to be in relation to sugar grains, as Belinda came to look at the issue in your room and we certainly do apologise as there is no excuse to have sugar from previous guests. But do note that you had already opened your sugar on Belinda's arrival.

In relation to the insects, this is not the norm, however can happen from time to time as we are located in a rural setting, not a man made one and the style of hotel being on ground level, walking straight in from nature somehow they can get in the room after it has been cleaned. The rooms are checked prior to arrival by house keeping. Thank you for raising this and it certainly has been addressed.

We did have a great deal of correspondence via email as you were not willing to talk with me on the phone. We understand if you wish to revisit the Hunter Valley elsewhere next time but if you would like to stay with us at Tuscany please let me know and I would like to be able to personally look after you.

Yours sincerely
