Great location, which was easy to get to restaurants and wineries, peaceful area, friendly staff however the price you pay for the accommodation was much lower than our expectations. With such a great looking website and promises of a special breakfast we were disappointed at what we got.

I agree with the comments written in the review below :
"The bed is pretty ordinary as well as is the breakfast.....
Hence the three star rating modernly designed and our stay was generally relaxing. If it wasn't for the price tag, I would have given it four stars.

Clever website, great pictures, good reviews and a hefty price tag to boot - we were so looking forward to our stay at Tonic Hotel.

I suppose this was part of the problem. There was nothing really wrong with the hotel but the experience did not wow us.

On the website, it says that the rooms are private and gives the impression that the units are separated/secluded but they are not. They come in rows of three. We could hear our neighbour's voices when they are lounging on their deck.

The bed is pretty ordinary as well as is the breakfast.

Hence the three star rating.

In all fairness, the hotel is located in a nice spot (we saw rabbits hopping around at night and black swans swimming in the lake during the day), rooms are modernly designed and our stay was generally relaxing. If it wasn't for the price tag, I would have given it four stars.

Just returned from a magical weekend in the hunter.

We stayed with friends in the 2 bedroom unit which was fantastic. Very modern and spacious. Both rooms are ensuites and are at either side of the unit making them very private. Living space has large modern and well equipped kitchen.

Living room has lovely open gas fire and deck with BBQ faces the sunset and overlooks a large pond.

Fridge was well stocked when we arrived so breakfast was catered for (bacon eggs banana bread etc). Owner was lovely and had a chat when he brought a paper in the morning.

Locks work on key code which is very convenient if arriving late as you can just let yourself in.

All in all a great property in a beautiful location and we will definitely return.

Tonic is private, beautiful and effortlessly stylish - and has clearly been designed by someone with an artist's eye for the landscape. It is unique in the way the design, gardens and sculpture complement the surroundings. I was captivated by the accommodation - spacious, clean, opulent but uncluttered - and the view of the dam, sunset and black swans (which we watched from the luxurious bed), and we loved the quality of the breakfasts and the unobtrusive way we were looked after.

We've stayed at Tonic twice - a few years ago as a couple, then this year we booked the 2-bedroom place and took my in-laws, visiting from the UK. The property has since changed hands but I've checked the website and it appears the offerings have not changed.

We love Tonic, but it's not a "hotel" - that's probably why we love it. It's quirky and individual, with top quality furnishings and linens and achingly stylish touches. Oh and underfloor heating in the bathrooms, which we really appreciated when we went in the Spring! There is no check-in, and we've yet to see staff although there must be some otherwise the fairies must clean up too, when they come to re-stock the fridge with breakfast goodies.

What we have seen is kangaroos, rabbits, swans, ducks...and beautiful sunsets.

It's the perfect base for wine tours, has some great restaurants nearby (we love Mojos, recommended by Tonic, as did our visitors) and is also a great place to stay in with some deli goodies and a bottle or several of wine after a hard day's wine-tasting.

If you like cookie-cutter hotels where you could be anywhere in the world, and a buffet breakfast shared with everyone else in the hotel, then Tonic is not for you. If you want a very special experience, with roos jumping around metres away from your breakfast table, get yourself there.

It's not the cheapest self-catering experience you can have in The Hunter, but I'd bet it's the most comfortable, stylish, romantic and enjoyable.

Just celebrated my 40th with friends and Tonic was fantastic. Modern rooms with views across the lake, the common lounge area with its huge open fire and commercial kitchen is perfect for a quiet glass of Shiraz in front of the fire or a breakfast cook up for 20. Ian the owner spoils you with a never ending supply of fire wood, great wine and fresh breakfasts. I would recommend Tonic to anyone from couple getaways to family breaks with wineries, chocolate shops and great dining just minutes up the road. Will definitely be back. Cheers chris

Forget the big hotels with sprawling golf courses and definately forget the pre-fab cottages hastily erected in someones back yard. Tonic is all about privacy with it's unique style and treatment of guests is a breath of fresh air! After researching long and hard for the ideal place in the vineyards to celebrate my partners birthday I selected Tonic. We could not have been happier! Fabulous modern yet comfy accommodation with fantastic views and so so private from check in to check out. Great breakfast with quality provisions and all of the small details that make such a difference thought of by the owners. Thank you for a really memorable stay.
