Leisure Inn Pokolbin Hill

Nothing flash and very good value. The rooms are clean enough. Aircon works well and they even left it on before we arrived which was a nice touch as it is summer right now. Great location and very spread out. For the price you really can't go wrong.

My previous partner and I stayed at the Leisure Inn and it was really fantastic. Excellent views of the beautiful Hunter Valley Vineyards, easy to find, close to some prominent vineyards, walking distance from Harrigans. We went on a small bus wine tour, had a great time with local people.
The room was top class, very clean, comfortable, 4 star accommodation, fantastic.....
The staff were friendly and accommodating. Looking forward to another stay in 2013.

Room Tip: Look on the web for this accommodation or the Hunter Vally travel guide. Use local vineyard bus tour...

Husband and I had a two night stay in Units 27 & 28 with another couple as a two bedroom apartment. Unit 27 is basically a ‘suite’ – separate bedroom with a bathroom and kitchenette, dining table and sitting area. Unit 28 was more motel style. Basically a bedroom with a sink and microwave, table and two chairs, air con and television all in one room and then a bathroom off this room. I think 28 had the advantage as the air con and television were in the same room as the bed. There is an interconnecting door between the two rooms. A comfortable stay in a reasonably clean apartment. The kitchen is tiny with very limited cooking equipment. Two hotplates and a microwave and very few utensils. Plenty of wine glasses though! Each bathroom had a spa bath. Lounge in sitting area didn’t quite accommodate four people and was very uncomfortable.
A previous poster commented on the room rates being variable depending on your negotiating skills. I agree and sadly my skills were not great as we were told we were committed to the booking we made despite the rooms being offered at $100 cheaper per night. Reception staff not willing to budge. We paid $324 per night and paid a deposit online. I suggest not booking ahead as the best rate was $239 per night. Did consider losing the online deposit and making a fresh booking. A gentleman on reception on the Monday morning was delightful - friendly and helpful with info and interesting stories about the property.
Units 27 & 28 are right near Broke Road which had pros and cons. The walkway through to Hunter Valley Gardens and the shopping village was at the back of our units but so was the Monday morning 5am traffic. Tuesday morning was not quite as busy thankfully.
Nice clean pool and barbecue area. Games room was locked. Lots of space and privacy and lovely views over grapevines to the Ridge.
The highlight of our Hunter Valley visit was Emily from Hunter Valley Carriages and her coach ride through the vineyards. Emily and her ‘girls’ were fantastic. Highly recommended.
A good stay and we would stay here again.

Although we were travelling for work, we were still thrilled when we arrived to find our room was in the most gorgeous spot, right near a big lake. The sunset was incredible, plenty of kangaroos around to see. The rooms were generously sized and the bath tub was awesome. All very clean. Only downside was that the staff in the restaurant seemed a little lost with what they were doing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room near the lake!

We were staying for an extended weekend and some wine tasteing. The room was very good and the staff friendly. We were in one of the rooms which front onto the road, but there was a green belt between us and the road. In the evening we had Kangaroos grazing on the grass near us and ducks from the dam came for a visit.

The hotel is close to some wineries and the Hunter Valley Gardens.

The only down side was the muzac in the resturant. It was totaly inappropriate for dining.

The Leisure Inn at Pokolbin is a family friendly and couples friendly place. Lovely quiet location. Rooms are comfortable and reasonably clean. Front desk staff reasonable helpful although as we booked in for the Christmas Break a little information in advance would have saved some grief with knowing where to locate food. Maccas on Christmas night was an interesting outcome. If you like wine country though , this Hunter Valley location is ideal. It's beautiful and very central to the wineries. A must do is walking across to the Hunter Valley Gardens to visit the specialist shops and gardens during the day and the Christmas lights display at night. This lights display is apparently the largest in the southern hemisphere and has to be seen to be believed.

Room Tip: If you like water views, some rooms are located closer to the lake
