My husband and I spent 6 glorious days at the Hermitage Lodge. It is a beautiful location. So peaceful. The restaurant is absolutely incredible - particularly the pizza. Room was lovely and quite with incredible view of the vineyard. Staff was gracious and warm and very helpful. Would return to this spot in a heartbeat.

Only stayed here for one night on our 5 week trip by car down the East Coast. We had a standard room situated right next to the reception, which was very spacious and clean albeit a bit tired. Contintental breakfast was decidedly mean. Sorry but this was the worst one we encountered. On site is a fabulous restaurant where we had a lovely meal the evening we arrived, so couldn't really understand why the breakfast couldn't have been served in there.
Anyway the valley is lovely and the pool here was a lovely surprise. Staff were very friendly and helpful.

We had our annual company offsite for the 2nd year running (tells you something!) here and really I can't fault the place. Noreen and Mark offer the highest level of service and always with a smile, nothing is too much trouble for them. Noreen even arranged a fantastic pasta making class for our group. I have stayed in both sides of the complex, both spacious, well appointed rooms that are fastidiously cleaned. Another staff member and I usually only come up for the one night and on each occassion have been welcomed with wonderful biscotti and to die for coffee! The food in the restaurant is also fabulous. I would highly recommend Hermitage Lodge to all who want to stay in the Hunter Valley.
Kudos to Noreen, Mark and their staff.

Hermitage Lodge was a truly wonderful find! Following the advice from other tripadvisor reviews I took the plunge and booked 3 nights at this clean, comfortable and fantastically located property in the heart of the Hunter Valley during the Christmas break.

Being away from home and family at Christmas is always a strange feeling, however the husband and wife duo who run Hermitage Lodge (and their lovely son) made us feel right at home!

On arrival (several hours early before check-in...) we were greeted with a smile, a cup of tea and some excellent advice about how to spend our time in the Hunter Valley - most of which ended up being our itinerary! The lodge is situated in a prime location, near to all of the key attractions and amenities and therefore all of our excursions were in close proximity.

In terms of the rooms - we stayed in a deluxe room with spa bath - which had lovely high ceilings and a real sense of privacy. The room itself was clean, spacious, comfortable and faced the surrounding vineyard. We thought that getting a room with a vineyard view was really lucky, however according to the owner, all of the rooms in fact have a vineyard view!!!

During our stay we dined at the Italian restaurant 'Il Cacciatore' (which is on site at the lodge) and had a wonderful meal. Despite being the height of the busy season, the food was fabulous and the staff were really on the ball (Cameron, our waiter was a real gem).
We enjoyed our meal here so much that on our final evening we ordered room service from the restaurant and devoured spaghetti bolognese sat on our balcony, sipping wine from the wineries we had visited that day and enjoying the views of the vineyard!
It doesn't get much better that this!!

We decided very last minute to go up to the Hunter Valley for 1 night for a relaxing getaway and Hermitage Lodge did not disappoint! We were given a Suite for a very reasonable rate as there were no studio's left and I'm so glad we got one. The massive balcony overlooking the vines was beautiful, having breakfast and dinner out there was perfect. The bedroom was very large with a comfortable king size bed and the lounge area was very spacious too. We loved it so much that we extended our stay for another night!
The free wi-fi in our room also came in very handy.
The restaurant's food was exceptional. We had a 3 course dinner delivered to our balcony, and even though it was expensive, it was worth it.
The staff were wonderful, particularly the owners, who made our stay so fabulous. Nothing was too much trouble.
It was the best weekend getaway and we can't wait to come back!!!

We booked just for a quick night and mainly as the price was cheap. We were so pleasently suprised at the lodge. Our room wasn't ready as we were a little early so they upgraded us free of charge so we could go out and enjoy the EXCELLENT location. Room was spacious, modern, clean and perfect. I wasn't aware that there was a nice continental breakfast included that was perfect.

We left our toddler teddy bear in the room (big oops) and as soon as i rang they said they had it waiting for us and were posting it tomorrow.

The service was so nice, really friendly and personal. The restaurant looked gorgeous, although we didn't want to annoy the other patrons with a tired toddler.

We will be returning every 3 months and happily recommend to family and friends.

I must say again the location is great, lots of main wineries including rosemount, lindemans, de bertoli, the smelly cheese shop, the cheese factory all within a few kilometres. many other small botique wineries surrounding and it was so quite. It is a bushland setting with small vines.

My wife and I stayed at The Hermitage for 3 nights in early May, 2009. It is a very comfortable inn, well-located for exploring the wine country.

Our room ("Tyrrells") was in the main building, at the end opposite Il Cacciatore Restaurant. It was quiet, but rooms nearer the restaurant might have some evening noise. We opted for just a standard room, rather than one of the suites that are located in separate buildings around the central pond and gardens.

The room was large, attractively furnished in a modern style, and had a view of the pond and vineyard from a small patio accessible through a sliding glass door. The attractively tiled bathroom was fairly large, with a shower and adequate counter space. The room air conditioner/heating unit was quiet and effective. The king size bed was very comfortable. A sofa bed and coffee table made a nice sitting area near the mini-bar and fridge, on top of which was the tv. The continental breakfast that was provided in the room wasn’t much – juice, coffee, milk, packaged rolls, fruit – but it was adequate.

(Tip: wifi isn’t included in the standard rooms but you may be able to link to the server for the suites from your patio. Ask for the passcode.)

The desk staff were friendly and helpful, particularly in helping recover some eyeglasses we left at a restaurant and sending them to us back home.

The Il Cacciatore Restaurant on premises wasn’t bad, but seemed overpriced for what you get. We liked The Veranda (tapas style) and Amanda’s much better, both of which were priced about the same.

All in all, we recommend the Hermitage for those who want a moderate-priced base for exploring the Hunter Valley.
