“Romantic weekend”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 28, 2013

We stayed in a Deluxe room with spa bath - continental breakfast included, back verandah overlooking vineyard. Both bathroom/bedroom very clean and well presented, we especially liked the breakfast in room which we ate overlooking the vineyard. We had dinner (room service) from the restaurant which was delicious. I especially loved the spa. Great location clost to wineries and cheese factory as well as pub. A great weekend with charming hosts.

Room Tip: Deluxe room with spa - recommended

Hermitage is quintessentially Hunter Valley accommodation with a bit of everything: cosy rooms, access to vineyard, fantastic restaurant and warm and friendly service. It's value for money, driving distance from the main wineries and restaurants and other Hunter Valley attractions, but also far enough to give you privacy. Definitely going back!

Stayed for 3 nights. Our room was comfortable but in no way outstanding. The verandah was pokey and looking tired and useless anyway considering the weather. The outlook over the "vineyard" was OK but not expansive in any way. The room was well furnished but dark and no bigger than most. Clean and well kept - yes. The bathroom had a spa, built into the bath/shower, nothing fancy -its not as though you would want to sit in the spa gazing over the vineyard. Couldn't really comment about the service as we only had very limited dealing with the staff - efficient but nothing more. Overall a nice place to stay but I am not so sure it deserves the #1 in the Hunter Valley rating. Not exactly cheap either for an extended stay.

Thank you for your review and thank you for choosing Hermitage Lodge; we were pleased to read that it was a nice place to stay. I am sorry you felt that we don’t deserve to be number #1, however we are not ranked number 1!, and don’t claim to be. We are ‘number 1’ to many of our return guests. Our vineyard is about 20 metres from the deck of the room you stayed in – your outlook was looking down the rows of vines, not across the rows so maybe they didn’t seem expansive, but then again we don’t suggest ‘expansive’ views; simply ‘views’ over the vineyard.
It’s good that you didn’t want to sit in the spa bath tub and gaze over the vineyard. Our room description clearly describes this room as a ‘Deluxe Room with Spa Bath ’ – nothing more. Most spas are built into the bath/shower. We do however have two beautiful suites with an outdoor spa tubs on the upstairs decks that look out over the vineyard.
We are pleased you enjoyed the sleep quality, we receive many comment about our comfortable bedding and yes the housekeepers work hard to ensure that the rooms are very clean and well maintained. Although the verandahs are covered it’s not much fun sitting outside on a cold, wet winters day – but unfortunately we can’t control the weather. It certainly didn’t deter the couple yesterday who sat on the exact same deck with their warm coats on and enjoyed their wine and a cheese plate. I not sure if I would consider a 3 night stay an ‘extended’ stay. You didn’t book directly with us so we weren’t given the opportunity to possibly offer you a better rate. We are a 4 ½ star rated property and our rates reflect that. There are numerous properties in the area that offer accommodation at lower rates.

good rooms, beds, pillows, spotless bathrooms. The restaurant, Il Cassiatorre has very good italian food, small menu with a good wine list. Very nice staff. would recommend it for a weekend stay. We booked on line at the last minute on a Sunday afternoon and they had spare rooms.

While visiting the Hunter recently, we stayed at Hermitage Lodge for 3 nights. The room was spacious with a king size bed and comfy couch. We loved sitting out on our verandah for breakfast or after a day travelling around the Hunter - it overlooked a small vineyard onsite. Breakfast was included in the price and was delicious - the muesli was particularly good. Il Cacciatorre restaurant is onsite and serves delicious food, which is particularly good if you do not want to drive after a day visiting wineries. I would stay there again.

Stayed just one night regrettably due to poor planning. Would have loved a longer stay in the region but also at this place. Stayed in a suite close to reception. Large room with patio doors leading to seating terrace overlooking vines. Nice breakfast pack in the fridge, home made muesli was fabulous. Cafetiere for making fresh coffee. Well equipped room to make your breakfast which included toast. Large and comfy bed, sofa, armchairs. Good size and well kitted out bathroom...nice toiletries. Staff friendly and helpful. Lots of wine tastings close by. The restaurant Il Cacciatore had a lovely ambience by a small lake/water feature. Food excellent, service great. Reasonably priced. Have nothing negative to say about this accommodation...lovely and would highly recommend.

Room Tip: Only saw our room and it began with a T...close to reception and car park, but the place was lovely...

We had a 3 night stay at Hermitage Lodge in March. Our room was Bimbadgen a Premier Studio and it was situated in a quiet location overlooking the vineyard.

The room was spacious and well equipped with a very comfortable super-king bed. There were large armchairs, a big flat screen TV and lovely shaded decking area with comfortable chairs.

We found Hermitage to be in a great location for exploring the Hunter Valley and it was a welcoming place to come back to at the end of the day. There were numerous restaurants in the area but we enjoyed the food at Il Cacciatorre so much that we only ate there.
