Owner description: Our wines are hand-made with meticulous care, because we truly love our craft. Our style combines four generations of local family winemaking with the learned traditions of great Rhone vignerons, epitomising the characters of small-batch, ultra-premium wines with a bit of flair thrown in for good measure. The estate on Hermitage Road, Pokolbin is a picturesque collection of purpose-built spaces including the Cellar Door Lounge, Private Tasting Room, Muse Kitchen restaurant and Manager's Quarters accommodation; drop in any day to meet the family and see what we're all about. Please note that we charge a $5 tasting fee per person (fully refundable against your first bottle of wine).

“rather dissapointing”
Reviewed March 23, 2013

after having been to many other cellar doors in this area you are struck by having to pay 5 dollars for a very average tastng. the ladies seat you on the verandah ,appear with their two fast spoken sentences about the vine , turn up awhile later offering you average vine much too warm. Such a pitty the place itself is exremly charming and Muse next door ideally situated.we were so dissapointed having read all the good reviews. this place has probably become too popular, it's now quantity instead of quality

At Keith Tulloch Wine we offer a tasting of our full range on the Verandah or in the tasting lounge. There is a $5 tasting fee redeemable on purchase. At times we have an influx of visitors (esp on weekends) & it may mean we have a little less time with our guests than we prefer; we do receive great feedback from guests on their experiences in the majority of instances, aiming to over-deliver to them in all instances. Our wines are kept in a customised wine fridge - at busy times they can warm a little; to ensure the best tasting experience we aim to serve our wines a little warmer than you would when drinking them, as over chilling the wines can mask the nuances, flavours & aromas. We look forward to your next visit & apologise if you felt you did not receive the experience we aim to deliver. - Rowena Hawkins

“Not bad but not amazing”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

Good wine and great girl introducing the wines named Ema I believe, but the wine was nothing amazing. We visited a lot of wineries in the area and this one did not impress us enough to purchase.

“Perfect lunch”
Reviewed January 29, 2013

The Muse Kitchen here is a delight. It was a stinking hot day, the room was light and cool and the food was divine. Great place to stop for a re-fuel on the wine-tasting tour, you won't be disappointed

Apparently the wine-tasting here is also very good as it's a proper sit down tasting where they take you through lots of their wines. You have to pay but at $5 that sounds like a bargain to me! Only reason we didn't try it is because the tasting room was upstairs and I was injured so I couldn't climb the stairs. Excellent excuse to go back!

“Idyllic Stay in The Manager's Quarters”
Reviewed January 12, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at The Manager's Quarters with friends who were visiting from the UK and it really was a wonderful place to stay. The two bedroom apartment is spacious, immaculately presented and ideal for winding down after a day's touring of The Hunter Valley. Breakfast was provided for us to cook ourselves and included bacon and eggs, fresh bread and cereals. On arrival we were given a nice cheese platter, which we ate with some of the wine we had bought earlier that day - all of this while sitting on the balcony overlooking the winery. Keith Tulloch and his team were very welcoming and friendly. We will certainly stay here again.

“I didn't feel very welcome.”
Reviewed January 5, 2013 via mobile

We ate lunch at Muse and then stayed for a wine tasting.

The food at Muse was very good, particularly the gnocchi. The service was sufficient, although we felt we waited too long for the food and the bill, particularly given the relatively dear prices and small size of the restaurant. The waitress seemed to be going through the motions, slightly.

We then went upstairs for the tasting. I have no real issue with a $5pp tasting charge, particularly given that it is a sit down tasting and the surroundings really are beautiful. However, being asked to pay in advance seems unnecessary and border-line snobbish, as if they expected me to taste the wines and then make a mad dash for the door without paying, possibly with a wine glass under my jacket. That, sadly, set the tone for our tasting, with the descriptions of each wine given in a fairly disinterested fashion. I understand that they must have many visitors each day, but I want to learn about the vineyard and share their passion. This experience distinguishes one cellar door from another; not just the quality of the wines.

In the end, we left without buying any wines and felt particularly disappointed given the great ratings on Tripadvisor.
