Owner description: Our wines are hand-made with meticulous care, because we truly love our craft. Our style combines four generations of local family winemaking with the learned traditions of great Rhone vignerons, epitomising the characters of small-batch, ultra-premium wines with a bit of flair thrown in for good measure. The estate on Hermitage Road, Pokolbin is a picturesque collection of purpose-built spaces including the Cellar Door Lounge, Private Tasting Room, Muse Kitchen restaurant and Manager's Quarters accommodation; drop in any day to meet the family and see what we're all about. Please note that we charge a $5 tasting fee per person (fully refundable against your first bottle of wine).

“A must to visit!”

This one of the best cellar doors in the Hunter Valley. The staff are very helpful whether you are wine buff or a visting vineyards for the first time.

“A pleasant way to do wine tasting as they bring the wine to you at a table”
Reviewed October 15, 2012

Nice set up. When you come in, you pay for the wine tasting (AUD 5 pp). Then you pick a table. They bring the wine to you and you can select which ones you want to taste.

“Exceptional wine & hospitality”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

We visited this impressive new wine complex on a 2 day trip to the Hunter Valley. The outside appearance of the building & landscaping caught our attention & deserved a look. We went upstairs & there was only two other people tasting. The interior design of the main building is tasteful beyond words. It is a credit to the stylist. Jessica was the perfect host as we sat on a comfy lounge & went through the wine tasting list. Her explanation of the specific qualities of the wines & background on the viticulture history of the family was excellent. Jessica gave us time to consider the wines on our own & then came back for the next instalment. We appreciated that approach & thought it was thoughtful & non-pushy. Most importantly, the quality & taste of the wines blew us away. This was undoubtably the best wine we experienced on our 2 day trip to the more boutique wineries (mostly smaller). We will seriously consider membership of their wine club as the whole setup from the excellent lunch cafe downstairs (which we tried & loved!) to the quality of the complex & wines are a real stand out in a wine region with countless options for the visitor. Thanks for the great experience.

“BEST wine tasting experience in the Hunter!”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

This was our second last wine tasting experience of three days in the hunter. All I can say is wow! The view was amazing, the wines were beautiful and the service was superb. It was the first out 12 wineries we visit where we didn't feel rushed or pressured to purchase anything. The $5 tasting charge is not an issue and there are several signs around the cellar door that indicate there is a fee. Would recommend this place to others. The view, the décor and the place is just stunning.
