We were married in Hunter Gardens Chapel several years ago and had our reception at Hunter Gardens Lodge, so booked a return to the Lodge for our Anniversary. On arrival, we were shocked at the 'run down' state of the grounds at the lodge and the almost 'rude' staff at reception. We did not get a welcoming reception at all - even as Accor Advantage Plus members. The room was Okay, but our 24 hour Internet Connection which we had to pay $24 for , failed in the first hour and could not be retrieved.
A girl at breakfast reception was rude and abrupt.
However a waitress called "Hannah" at the evening restaurant was delightful and the Indian Maitre D' was very helpful and friendly.
Overall though, we were very disappointed in the condition and service(lack of) at the Mercure Hunter Lodge and probably will not go there again or recommend it to our friends.
After spending an extra $500 plus over our Accor Advantage Discounts in 2 days , we certainly felt it was NOT good value and not welcoming compared to other places we have stayed.
Just after our arrival we were looking for something to eat. Staff seemd to be very vague on what was available. Disappointing!
We stayed in the 800 block which had no security lighting at night.....would have been very easy to have tripped from the parking area to the path, as it was very dark.....if we had not used extreme caution.
We notified staff but there was no change the next evening.
The friendliest service we recieved was at breakfast.
The suites are okay if you want extra room.....and the standard rooms are very good value.
Location is excellent.
Mercure Hunter Gardens is all about the position. smack bang in the middle of all the major sites in the Hunter Valley. The are so many wineries and tourist attractions a walk or small drive away. We were fortunate enough to stay in the Presidential Suite and it was very comfortable. The room was very clean and of course very large. The large bed was great and I was able to get a good nights sleep. The bathroom although a little small for a Presidential suite was fitted out with a spa bath and dual head shower which was great to end a day of wine tasting. The room was also fitted with 2 cable TVs, fireplace, kitchenette and work desks. The service was great at the Mercure, could not fault it. Breakfast is of the standard buffet type and of average quality. Nothing special here, plus some of the yoghurt and fruit options were off, additionally at $33 per person it wasn't the best value. However we found eating out in the Hunter generally to be a very, very expensive exercise.
My partner and I stayed here for new years 2009/10. We arrived at 12pm - 2 hours before the 2pm check in and the hotel offered us complimentary drinks as our room wasn't ready (even though it was us who were early!!). The library and games room were a wonderful addition and distraction to pass the time - it was very cosy and comfortable.
The rooms were spacious, and might I say the spa bath was amazing!!! I loved the mood lighting for the bathroom.
It was a very clean and comfortable room with air con and a private balcony.
If you wanted to go to any place around the hunter, the staff were more than happy to order a taxi for you.
The only disappointment was their restaurnat (steak place) a bit overpriced for the meals.
Breakfast was fantastic - great selection on the buffet!
I would recommend this hotel to anyone - its great for families also.
