When we stayed here in May 2012 we were very disappointed. What a difference 2 years make! Has the hotel been spruced up or is it just that we stayed in a different wing, but the room was clean and tidy, and the air-conditioning was whisper quiet. The reception staff was lovely, efficient and helpful, and there's quite good free wi-fi in the lounge.

There's still quibbles, but they can't be helped, they have to do with the age of the property: phone reception in the rooms is not good, so everyone takes their phones into the garden and you can overhear the conversations; insufficient towel rails in the bathroom; and the ubiquitous attached clothes hangers.

The big plus, of course, is the location! We went to the concert at Hope Estate and were able to walk back.

We very much appreciate your comments regarding your stay at the Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens and are very pleased you returned to our property!

We will certainly address the smaller issues we had. We do find Vodafone has trouble with reception out here.

We also find our location is great for attending concerts... And after concert entertainment as well!

Would be a nice place to stay as a couple for a weekend but not for business - limited in where you can eat, no check out facility before 7 am and the food is expensive compared to other offers in the area.
Wouldn't be my first choice of call and is more expensive that other places

We stayed for one night on the 13th Feb 2014. Check in was fast and staff very friendly.

We booked a deluxe king room (room 304). The room was nice enough but there were some house keeping issues. The curtains were not hung properly and just needed someone to re hook them, there was spilt coffee stains on the patio and external door frame and there was rubbish on the patio and in the garden, easy fixes in my view. The T.V cable was unplugged and we had to move furniture to sort it out, again easy fixes for housekeeping.

We had a spa bath in the room and when we were in the bath the entire electric control panel came off and revealed nasty mould and gunk.

On the plus side the location is great for the gardens and you can walk to Tempus Two (10-15min) which is handy when you need to leave the car so you can drink alcohol. The grounds of the hotel were well kept and pretty. A great central location for wineries, food and activities.

Check out was quick and easy and again staff very friendly.

Check out time is 10am which I think is a bit early considering check in is 2pm, we did ask for a later check out and were given until 11am with no charge.

Room Tip: The double rooms are much bigger than the king rooms.

Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your experience at the Mercure Resort Hunter Valley Gardens.

You can rest assured that we are taking the appropriate measures to address the problem and prevent future occurrence with the maintenance team regarding the spa, our apologies for this, since you have stayed this has been addressed.

You are correct in saying easy fixes and we have discussed the room issues with our housekeeping team. Patios absolutely should be cleaned and curtains should close and TV cords should be in, our apologies for this; I am glad you were also able to take the positives out of the stay and you are also correct in saying a great location to Tempus Two (and McGuigans and the Gardens)

We appreciate your sharing your concerns, and it is our hope that you will give us the opportunity to better serve you in the near future. I would suggest trying our walking winery tour, which will take you to all the wineries within walking distance so you can leave the car in front of your room.

There are plenty of nicer places to stay in the Hunter Valley but the Mercure is Hunter Valley Central and comes plenty cheap mid-week (the best time to visit the valley - quiet cellar doors etc). We had a "king studio" and found bed comfort, cleanliness, standard of furnishings, room size, bathroom quality all good. Grounds are nice as is the pool. You are within walking distance to the wonderful Hunter Valley Gardens, the excellent Cellar Restaurant, 3 wineries (Brokenwood, McGuigan's and Tyrell's) and numerous shops a small supermarket and cafes. Breakfast is ok, standard fare - you can however have a glass or two of bubbles with breakfast at no extra cost. VERY important to note: if you are visiting the gardens you can obtain 1/2 price tickets from reception that are valid for 12 months (so you can even buy some for friends who might be visiting later). Gripes - no free wifi (typical in Australia however - why?), fridge maybe a bit small for a wine region.

Room Tip: "Studio King" room represented good value for money.

The staff were fantastic! As soon as the remote was reported to be the wrong one for Foxtel it was changed. As soon as we asked for a second cup so we could have coffee without sharing the one cup, out was brought to us within a minute!
The broken and missing bit of tile in the bathroom is a trip hazard and the taps in sink and shower need a sticker, in the least, to show which way is hot and cold. It would be nice to have a couple of glasses in the bathroom to rinse after brushing.
Cobwebs and the broken lampshade need fixing/removing.
This was the BEST disabled room we have stayed in. Our own courtyard, huge shower with large seat and it was great to have a shelf for toiletries.

Dear SuuBlundell,

Thank you for taking the time to review our property. It is great to hear we have rectified any potential issues as quickly as possible during your stay and it is really lovely to hear some feedback on our disabled rooms!

We will definitely look at the glassware in the bathroom, not something that is often bought up but a great point and i will also see what our maintenance team can do with the taps.

We booked this place on the centre of hunters valley and were not disappointed. The resort is large and set in lush mature gardens with a good size pool etc. the rooms are very large and well presented. It's not new but very presentable. The whole place is set up in a ranch style and the entrance and lounge room is spacious and welcoming. We had a very comfortable night after a day wine tasting which is not hard to do and woke up refreshed and ready for the hardly breakfast ( which was extra but with the right card you get a 50% discount). The gardens are nice to walk around and the place is very peaceful. Thanks for a great stay.

We booked this hotel for 2 nights. Our experience began with being checked into the wrong room because our room was occupied by people with the same surname - you get that at weddings. Instead of swapping the names on the room we were left to have to explain at each staff interactiobn what had happened. Next morning we were required to vacate the room we were in and were assued our bags would be moved to our original room as a "priority". At 12.30pm we returned and the new room was not ready for us. The room was cleaned only after I kicked up a fuss at the front desk. The receptionist also wanted to put the breakfasts not paid for by the original couple in the room on our bill untill I objected. The pool area was filthy and bins and bottles not removed all w/e. The setting and gardens, though, are lovely.

Room Tip: Rooms behind the pool area have high ceilings and get more light.
