“Good but a little pricey”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 29, 2013

While we had a wonderful weekend in the Hunter I continue to be surprised by the lack of good quality, high end, boutique and large hotels at a reasonable price. Most are dated and in serious need of refurbishment which is why I booked at Spicer's.
The design and furnishings in the rooms at Spicer's are well coordinated and the bedding comfort factor and linen is spot on. The open fireplace set perfectly was a nice touch as were the generous inclusions in the mini bar. But it's what you would expect of a boutique hotel at $500 per night.
The restaurant is a must visit if you're staying (and not just for breakfast). The dinner we had at Botanica was exceptional (and go say hi to the big gorgeous pigs down the back if you get time - they're really friendly).
What let this trip down was the room was on top of the reception so not nearly as private or quiet as you would hope (you could hear guests coming and going), it had no balcony or outdoor space, the tv reception was poor at best and the hot water was hit and miss and lacked any real pressure. While these things seem trivial, for a high end boutique hotel you expect a higher standard.
The extra little things they did made this stay go from average to quite good (mini bar, breakfast in our room on the sunday, cocktail in the evening and the biscotti on departure) but what would have made our stay better would have been explanation of room layout and locations to help guests understand the level of privacy and noise (or some better soundproofing) and reconsidering those shower heads and water pressure options. It also wouldn't hurt to sort out the tv reception and integrate an on-demand movie service. It's a hard balance to get a boutique hotel right however it couldn't hurt to upgrade a few of the facilities.

Every visit to Spicers is special and a wonderful experience. The personal service is special and Belinda and Mark make a special effort to make the experience exceptional.
The wine list at Botanica is first class with a range of premium Australian and French wines which are retail priced and not typically Restaurant priced. The food at Botanica from Breakfast to dinner is 3 Hat quality. As Bruce Tyrrell mentioned to me recently when the restaurant at Pooles Rock closed, he was worried that the Hunter lost a 3 Hat restaurant. But he said Botanica has more than filled that gap.

My husband and I had the best weekend here. From the moment you arrive the service you receive is second to none. From the complimentary mini bar, to the in room fire place, evening cocktails and welcome card - Spicers Vineyards Estate makes for a perfect weekend getaway.

The restaurant on site 'Botanica' is fabulous, we ate both breakfast and dinner there.

We stayed one night & booked the dinner at Botanica. We were kindly upgraded to a deluxe room and it was perfect. A large bathroom with a spa that had underfloor heating. The separate lounge room had an open fire and was also very spacious. The complimentary mini bar was really generous with sparkling wine and plenty of nibbles. This would probably be the most complete place we have stayed at in Hunter Wine Country. The breakfast in the morning was based on the experience of the chef in Paris. It was not only a genuine example but everything you could ask for including cereal, pastries, eggs and a fruit platter. A great start to the day in their Botanica restaurant. The staff were alI friendly and willing to please. I would not hesitate to recommend this place to anyone wanting to stay someone in genuine comfort while exploring the vineyards.

My Husband and I recently stayed at spicers for a relaxing night away and could not have been happier with the service! Spicers is by far the best accommodation we have ever stayed in!!! Open Fire place, spa, heated floors in the bathroom, free mini bar, welcome drink, the list goes on and on! Breakfast was delicious and we will be sure to stay there again!

Spicer's Vineyard Estate is a nice guesthouse, I wouldn't go so far as to say that it is luxurious or 5-star but the surroundings are quite pretty and the rooms are comfortable. The rooms are starting to seem a bit outdated, particularly the bathrooms; the shower ran hot and cold, and the water pressure wasn't great. They've recently renovated a handful 'Luxury spa suites' but unfortunately none of these were available the weekend my partner and I stayed at Spicer's so we were in a King Spa Suite. One great thing about the room is the open fireplace - a must have in winter, and the marshmallows supplied for 'toasting' are a lovely touch. We stayed in an upstairs room and we could hear some noise (talking, tv sounds) through the wall from the room next to us. The breakfast served in the restaurant is very, very good (outstanding quality) although its a set menu and I always like to have some options for breakfast.

It is also very convenient to have an on-site spa and I enjoyed my massage. All-in-all I think Spicer's is good value for the price and I'd be very interested to try the Luxury Spa Suites as I'm yet to find 'luxury' in the Hunter.

We recently celebrated our anniversary with 4 days of pampering at Spicers Vinyard.
It was a chilly few days in the Hunter which made each evening by our open fire perfect . The wood is supplied each day,and each evening cocktails arrive at your door.
The spa is wonderful & even the bathroom essentials are luxuriously divine.
The staff are outstanding. You won't find sweeter, more efficient & accommodating people.
Our meals were delicious. The duck & pork belly alone were worth our 5 hour drive !
Thank you so much to all, we will most certainly be back xx

Room Tip: We stayed in a 2nd level room & will chose to do so again.
