We booked on the half-day tour and were having so much fun that we stopped on for the full day as there was room on the mini-bus!

We had arrived in the Hunter Wine Valley late on Sunday evening and left a message for the tour company stating that we were only in the area for one full day the next day - we were very pleased when Gary phoned back within an hour to say that he would pick us up at 10 a.m. in front of the Hermitage Lodge where we were staying. The bus arrived promptly at 10 a.m. and we set off on the wine tour. Gary's great sense of humour and knowledge of the local area were fantastic and we had a great group on the bus which made the day even more enjoyable. We even saw some 'wild' kangaroos grazing.

First stop on our tour was the Audrey Wilkinson Vineyard - we all received a lesson on how to 'taste' the wines correctly and sampled about 8-10 wines. The tour consists of visiting 6 different vineyards and included a lunch stop (not included in the price but prices ok) - there was no pressure to buy the wines at each stop but the deals were pretty reasonable so we bought a few bottles :-) We also stopped at a chocolate shop too which was a bonus.

Definitely the best way to get the most out of visiting a selection of vineyards - no worries about driving and its a door-to-door service. Gary made the day for us - "cheers" x

We recently spent 24 hours in the hunter with family visiting from overseas. We know the area well, but decided to book a tour so we didn't have to drive. We booked onto the afternoon 3 hour tour that was supposed to visit 3-4 wineries. We were being picked up from the hotel at 1.30. This came and went, and no sign of them. The hotel rang them and they said the driver was on the way and would be there soon. At 2pm we got the hotel to ring them again, and it turns out they had forgotten to pick us up. We finally got collected by another driver ( the company owner I believe) at 2.15... 45 minutes late. She said to us something about the bus being held up with lunch for the rest of the passengers or something, which we thought odd as the hotel receptionist had passed on the message from the company that we had been forgotten. She took us to the Garden Cellars (essentially a bottle shop in the hunter valley gardens) to do some tasting until the rest of the group were there. We were then told this was to be considered as one of our 3 wineries, we were not happy about this as we had missed an hour of the 3 hour tour, and were told we would only get to visit 2 wineries now. As we walked out of the cellars and met the driver, he said "oh, hi, you're the people we forgot about" at which point the lady who had told us the rubbish about the lunch running late looked quite embarrassed. We understand these things can happen, but in future our advice would be just to tell the guests the truth. The bus driver was friendly and nice, and we visited Draytons and McGuigans and then the chocolate shop before being dropped back to our hotel. We really enjoyed the couple of wineries we went to. We only ended up paying for 2 people instead of 3, to make up for all the hassle, and that we'd missed a third of the tour! They were very good, we didn't have to push to get this, and we felt this was fair payment for what we got. We had fun while we were at the wineries, just not a great start.

Our advice to the company would just be to be honest with your guests from the start, we all understand mistakes happen. In addition, you did a good job giving us a fair discount for the hassle we had. other than this it's a good tour and good value for money.

This tour went from 10am until 5pm and we visited 6 wineries, 1 distillery, a cheese shop, and a chocolate shop all for $65...great value. There were 12 people on the shuttle and our driver, Gary ,told us a bit about each winery on our way there. The wineries knew we were coming ahead of time and all gave us private tastings of 6-10 wines. Gary had a big smile and a great sense of humor and everyone on the bus made friends and cracking jokes by the second stop. I was travelling alone so this was a nice social way to tour the area. Highly recommended!

We did two days worth of Vineyard Shuttle Service tours - 1 on the horse and cart, and 1 on the shuttle. We have been on wine tours all around the world, and Vineyard Shuttle has been one of our favourites!

Horse and Cart Tour: $70 p/person for a full day, lunch not included. Lunch was at Blaxlands Inn, and only cost around $22 for a HUGE delicious meal (tip: get the red wine beef pot pie, massive and so so delicious, specially after a few wines, but the angus burger was good too). We were lucky enough to have the carriage all to ourselves for half of the day as we went on a Sunday morning when everyone else in the area is probably hung over. Our carriage driver, Sandra - what a legend! She was so lovely, down to earth and told amusing tales making our journey enjoyable. It was around 32 degrees the day we went, which sounds like it wouldn't be fun in a horse and cart, but you get a nice breeze if you're in the open carriage which we were and it never once felt too hot. We had provided the company with a wish list of wineries we wanted to visit, and they tailored the tour to us, but after visiting we realise every winery up there is worth a look so if you're not organised OCD like me, don't worry - they will look after you. Our day consisted of McGuigans (awesome wines, and a cheese shop), Tamburlaine (organic wines), Tower Wines, Blaxlands Inn (lunch and wine tastings), Pepper Tree (FAVOURITE WINERY OUT OF THEM ALL) and Tempus Two. We got a bit carried away by the time we got to Tempus Two and were late back to the carriage (you lose track of time after you've tasted about 50ish wines for the day, oops) but Sandra did not complain at all, she just waited out in the hot sun for us, didn't come chasing us down saying we have to leave like other wine tours do, because obviously she's amazing. Shout-out to the bus driver who drove us to meet the horse and cart, can't remember his name but has was lovely, as was the guy who drove us home...

Shuttle bus tour: $50 for the full day (can you say bargain? most yarra valley and barossa valley tours are about $150 p/day) lunch not included. Lunch was at Drayton's Family wines (where they sell giant bottles of port for like $15 and their thai beef salad, $20 is delicious). We did the shuttle tour with Gary the following day. Gary, another legend. He is so lovely and provided fantastic service. Despite having a full bus booked, we visited all the other wineries on our wish list that we didn't make the day before; and when we did revisit McGuigans (which we visited on the horse and cart the day prior), Gary dropped us at the winery across the road and came in with us to make sure we were looked after. Also, at our final stop on the bus tour, the chocolate, fudge and wine factory...my husband and I were still doing tastings when Gary was ready to take the others on the bus home, so he left us there to continue and came back and got us....what a guy!! Never received any service like this in all the wine regions we have been, South of France, Tuscany, Spain, Chile...The world needs more Gary's! On this tour we visited Audrey Wilkinson, Robyn Drayton's, Drayton Family wines (where we had lunch), McGuigans (but Gary dropped us at Brokenwood), Hunter Distillery (vodka tastings, which was AWESOME) and Hunter Valley Chocolate and Fudge place which also does wine tastings and chocolate tastings. SO MUCH AMAZING PACKED INTO ONE DAY. Gary was so radical, that all the old people who had only booked half day tours ended up staying for the whole day.

Both Sandra and Gary were incredible knowledgeable when it came to wine, wineries and the region itself, and personable fun loving aussie characters.

This company also does $15 return transfers from your accommodation to wineries or restaurants, way cheaper than a cab!

We will definitely be back to the Hunter Valley, utilising Vineyard Shuttle Service - they made a trip, which we thought would be a once off, one that we will definitely be doing again sooner rather than later.

My friend and I enjoyed ourselves last weekend on the Vineyard Shuttle. Kathy was a great host, and did an amazing job of introducing all of us, and being patient despite the fact that our tour ran nearly an hour later than expected. Would definitely book with Vineyard again.
