Owner description: The Wilkinson's were true pioneers of the Australian winemaking industry. Despite two earlier ventures in Australia, the Wilkinson family returned after the brothers Frederick and John had studied winemaking in France and Germany. In 1866 the family acquired the present site of the Audrey Wilkinson vineyard. Living in tents, they cleared the land and planted vines which were sourced from the MacArthur Onslow property. By the early 1900s, Audrey Wilkinson collected awards around Australia for his Hock, claret and fortified wines. Large quantities were exported to London. Audrey committed to leading edge technology which, at the end of the 19th century, included open cement fermenters and steam powered crushers and hoppers. It was here the Audrey Wilkinson legacy was born.

“Nice Views, Unfriendly Staff”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

i struggled to find Audrey Wilkinsons first off as the Cellar door isnt in the new hunter Valley 2013 tour information maps. Then once there with my husban it was hard to get service and the cellar door wasnt particlary busy. I was really rather disapointed as i had read some lovely reviews, when i was asking question the staff appeared to turn their nose up to me. Over all i wouldnt return, and if you are thinking of visiting the only thing really nice was the views.

“Eric is not from Glasgow!”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

Fabuluous fabulous fabulous!

When you think of a cellar door, you mostly think of wine tasting. Audrey Wilkinson Winery has some great wines, and we certainly stocked up. But it wasnae just the wine! Eric (not from Glasgow), our host, was charming and funny. His lady colleague whose name I didn't get was friendly and helpful. The wine tasting area was gorgeous, in a lovely building atop a hill with views over most of the valley. Best of all, after tasting the wine and buying our favourites, they loaned us some glasses and allowed us to bring in our picnic supplies to the tables on the verandah and eat and drink the afternoon away. Not just a wine buying trip, a great way to spend an arvo.

I loved the Muscat and the 2009 Shiraz, but my wife and friends all had their own favourites. Try the lot!

“Beautiful winery”
Reviewed March 13, 2013

This was our first time to Hunter Valley and we decided to go without a tour. After researching on TripAdvisor, we selected Audrey Wilkinson as one of our stops.

This is a beautiful winery - great views and beautiful cellar door. We are new to wine tasting and were not sure what to expect. We found the host to be very friendly and answered our questions. It was a bit busy, so it wasn't as personal as our stop to Scarborough (which was our favorite). They were generous with their tastings and we only tried about 6 different wines.

The wines are great and I would definitely recommend stopping here. BUT you must go to Scarborough, too.

“Exceptional wines and views”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

It is always a pleasure to visit the Audrey Wilkinson Winery. A super location, excellent staff and superb wines. The staff genuinely look like they are having a ball and very eager and willing to take you through the wines. Try their Semillon and Shiraz - and their dry rose is great value too. Highly recommend.
