Owner description: Unique, private luxury full or 1/2 day tours. 2- 10 guests only. By limiting our tours to max 10 guests we have access to small family-owned wineries that have excellent wines but do not take bigger groups. Pickup from Hunter Valley only in luxury Mercedes Benz vehicles. My wife's ancestors planted some of the first vines in the Hunter Valley in 1853 and just never left. We have looked after visitors to our region since 1998. In 2008 we added some tours to our business to the delight of many guests. We offer 2 different full day tours, our very popular 'Progressive winemakers Lunch tour' and 2 half day tour to choose from. Or we can tailor a tour to suit your needs. Our aim is to show our guests great food, great wine and have loads of fun. Educational, yet light-hearted. Our tours are unique, over time, we have build up trust with local chefs and (boutique) winemakers, who all offer a personalised experience. Because we only have a small number of guests on our tours we can be flexible and tailor our tours to suit you. We can also assist with your accommodation needs if needed.
Useful Information: Bathroom facilities, Stairs / elevator, Wheelchair access

My partner and I were lucky enough to have Nathan as guide on the Hunter Gatherer's full day tour. He was a charming and attentive host, and provided a lunch that was far above the quality we had expected. We visited three vineyards, the Two Fat Blokes cafe for cheese tasting, an olive oil tasting place, a cellar for chocolate and wine matching, and a microbrewery. Special mention goes to Eric, the lovely Scotsman at one of the vineyards, who very helpfully suggested some wines to hunt down at home!

We did the half day tour, which was fun, informative and such good value for money! We were collected and taken back to our hotel so we could scoff as much vino as we liked during the tour.

We visited 3 vineyards throughout the afternoon; Calais, Brokenwood and Gundog estates. All three were very different, but all good.

An amazing day! I can't recommend these guys enough!

The 11 bottles of vino we bought were consumed rather quickly..

We booked and paid online for a tour with this company and at 9.15 PM the night before we received a text message telling us it wasn't going ahead and saying the company would contact us the next morning to reschedule or organise a refund. We were upset as we were only going to the hunter valley for the day and had planned our trip around this half day tour as we liked the idea of visiting boutique wineries. We texted and called Zachary back but he didn't answer us or get back to us until 30 mins after we left a message the next morning.

We can understand that sometimes tours may need to be cancelled (as we were told they are a small company so this can happen) but we would have at least expected the company to offer to organise a suitable alternative for us. We called our hotel and, in a rush, they organised another tour for us that night. It wasn't what we wanted because it didn't go to boutique wineries but we accepted it so we would have something.

When we complained Zachary told us that the reason he hadn't tried to organise anything for us is because the hotel told him they had (he rang them instead of getting back to us). This can't have been true because he didn't offer to make alternative arrangements in the first place and didn't check if we were happy with the new company. The only thing he offered to do after we complained is text us the details of some other possible companies, not even to check availability.

In summary, if you want to book and pay for a tour that may be cancelled at the last minute and where there is zero customer service, go with Two Fat Blokes!

Thank you for your time to write you review. I am flattered that you would make the trip to the Hunter Valley specifically to experience one of our ours and sincerely regret not being able to accommodate you. Like so many of your fellow countrymen who had tickets to the 4th day of the last ashes test, you made a booking at the very last moment at the busiest time of the year in the Hunter Valley. We hate having to cancel a tour & luckily very rarely have to. In your instance we had taken a manual booking just prior to your booking coming in via our computer booking system, before we had the chance to update the computer. As soon as we realised what had happened we wanted to contact you, but only had an overseas number for you and Zac decided he didn't really want to incur the expenses of an international phone call and sent you a text. When he did not receive a reply he contacted your hotel to explain the situation. Your assumption that we did not try and find you another tour company is wrong. Zac contacted 3 tour companies we work closely with but they were also booked out. Your hotel kindly assisted us in finding you an alternative tour.
You rang the next day at 9.40 am, when we are right in the middle of picking up people and returned your call as soon as we had dropped our group off at their first venue.
It was an unfortunate sequence of events and we regret we had to cancel your tour. i believe we did everything possible to assist you in finding a suitable alternative for you.

We participated in the Progressive Lunch tour. We were staying 30mins from the general starting point for the tour and two fat blokes were more than accommodating in regards to picking us up. We were driven around in comfort all day which was nice in the heat.
The food and wine matching was great, every course was delicious!
Zachary was a great guide! Very easy going and answered every question with clarity and humour.
Zachary even gave us some recommendations for the next day and they were amazing!!
Perfect day! Thanks again.

I have never been on a wine tour before so I was not sure what to expect. There were 8 of us on the bus and we were all staying at Cyprus which meant there was one pick up and drop off.

We did the hunters and gatherers tour. It was a pretty full day. I think we did 3 wineries, a wine and chocolate tasting, a cheese tasting, lunch in a winery and finished off at the brewery.

Our host/driver/guide was easy going and genial. Everyone had a really good time.

My quibble was that the wineries we went to seemed to be for the views and their settings. Most of the wines were forgettable. i was surprised that we did not go to Tyrells or Lakes Folly which are legendary in the wine industry.

My partner was not impressed that we had an antipasto lunch in a winery whereas at the two fat blokes centre we had a cheese tasting. Surely for the money we paid could have included a BBQ lunch.
