Really good service from a younger female employee from the tempus two store (on many different occasions but yet to catch her name!) and amazing gelato choices

hi stevie, thankyou for giving us a positive responce, and thankyou for noticing our great service staff and store. the gelato is all made on site from italian ingredients . i personally went to italy to source the best equipment and rolls royce of flavors, so that we could make the best gelato in australia. we do have many italian community bus tours that now visit just for the italian cheeses and our gelato. and they all tell me it is as good if not better than milan and riminy?? not sure of the spelling gelato. again thankyou and hope to see you again

“Great place, well worth a visit”
Reviewed February 19, 2014

Kind of surprised by the neg reviews on here really. Ive been going to this place for years and never had a bad experience, in fact I actually have always spoken very highly of the staff who served me, always attentive and helpful. Im not afraid to give a bad review either if you look at other reviews Ive written, so bear that in mind.

My favourite lunch in the region is here in this shop. Grab the cheese and anti pasti platter with bread ($39.95) and sit out on the terrace and enjoy the view. Watch the busses pull up and see the hens stumbled about on their heels or the tourists wondering where the bus has brought them now. All good fun.

If youve friends with you, grab an extra cheese or a pate and another bread, the staff will chop it up and open packets for you if you ask.

Follow the platter with an ice cream and your lazy pic nic lunch is complete.

For those who feel the need there are plenty of sauces, free cheese tastings and other things on site. Toilets are down the other end of the complex, as are wineries for those looking to grab a bottle to go with lunch - ask for a cold one, most wineries will supply your wine cold for drinking rightaway.

Enjoy!

Hey thankyou for your kind comments and review. It is refreshing that people use this site to actually praise businesses for what they supply and do. And not just to write a negative review because they were having a bad day. We do our best to supply a world class foodies hall and a tourist attraction all in one. A mean feat to achieve for everybody that visits our store. We know we will never please everybody, but we do our best. And yes you are right we are great place to just sit and people watch. As you noted we have two winery outlets onsite as well as we are licensed serving alcohol. Again thankyou for your review

“Impatient and rude service.”
Reviewed February 4, 2014

We went into the Smelly cheese shop today as part of our self guided tour of the Hunter region, intending to buy a large cheese platter , a whole cheesecake for dessert and four large ice creams. After ordering my ice cream, the man serving us said to my friend "today would be good" with a look of absolute contempt on his face. When I said "there's no need to be rude" he rolled his eyes at me! Needless to say, they missed out on a fairly substantial sale this afternoon.

hi clagu.. probably should have been bagu. thankyou for your response. i am horrified that even after contact with you by e mail. and your thankyou but no thankyou response was received. you felt you had to join trip advisor and put your very first review up just to bag my business on social media. i suppose that is the way your generation do it now. live your lives on social media putting out your points of view wether they be right or wrong.

“good cheese but the original is better”
Reviewed February 3, 2014

there are two smelly cheese shops one is in the tempus 2 (food hall) and the other 1 is on broke rd just 10 minutes down the road the big one in the food hall is great but very busy i bought some cheese and meats and a wooden board from there.. the other smaller one (the original) on broke rd is very cute we bought some olives etc. from there both are really great.. at the tempus 2 shop there are a few places to eat i suggest you go it is busy but its fun..every thing in the hunter valley that is on broke rd or just off it is busy so don't expect it to be quaint.. the further out of the broke rd region you go the more quaint it becomes..

thankyou han. yes the original store in the pokolbin village complex is a much smaller store and doestn have the feel of the very industrial architecture that we have had to deal with at the tempus two site. unfortunately we out grew the smaller store and really had no where for the bus groups to do cheese tastings, so to stay on broke road and in the middle we jumped at the tempus two site when it became vacant. so we could still service our tourism market and free up the smaller store for our local clientel. not a lot of choice when it comes to rental sites of this size in the hunter valley.
thankyou again for your kind review and we hope to see you again soon.

“Cheeses ok gelato not my cup of tea”
Reviewed January 20, 2014

The shop is very nice and full of people with locals and a lot of tourist like us.
We both some cheeses to make our own sundwiches later. Cheeses were creamy and very fresh but little flavour.
I had a scoop of gelato that I found to watery.
Very good customer service even if very busy they found time to explain the gelato flavours to us.
