“Awful! McDs in comparison seems like 5 star dining.”
Reviewed January 8, 2012

We went to the restaurant as we were staying at the resort. On paper, the menu and surroundings seemed pretty good. We ordered the mussel and clam fettuccine and lamb with potato gnocchi for starters. The fettuccine and gnocchi was overcooked to the point of mushiness and the sauce was weird with a nasty aftertaste. Seafood was not fresh and tiny, with beards still hanging on and grit. The braised lamb tasted off and very lamby, like the whole barnyard was there.

At this point, with no high expectations for our mains, our chicken in parma ham and pork trio (piccolo maiale) arrived. The chicken was two really dry and charred pieces of chicken breast on a bed of oily zucchini with some pieces raw and some pieces blackened. The pork trio which sounded really nice on the menu was a big piece of dry pork loin with pork belly that was 80% fat and a little spoonful portion of sausage. The pork crackling, barbera pork jus and leek and cabbage cream sauce had transformed into fried cabbage that was raw and really charcoal burned (how'd the chef manage that?! =.= ) . This whole dish was so inedible I had to send it back after two bites.

All in all, a very disappointing meal which should have been at least edible for the prices they were charging.

Had new years eve dinner, food just ok I was surprised to say just average, the hunter restaurants I have dinned at before were fantastic.

“Avoid this place like their staff avoid you”
Reviewed December 26, 2011

We were fairly excited about visiting San Martino and planned to have mains and dessert - the menu sounded great on paper. Unfortunately, reality disappointed.

We started to worry a little when we arrived and waited for five minutes for the staff to greet us, despite several furtive glances in our direction. In the end we had to ask if the restaurant was self-seating, and were treated to a curt 'certainly not'. So why was our group left standing there long enough to have to ask?

Once seated in the near empty restaurant (maybe others didn't persevere long enough to be seated?) we perused the menu and placed our orders. Then we waited. And waited. And waited a little more. But we were willing to forgive the 50 minute wait if it was for good food - sadly it was not.

One of our party had the Tuscan lamb and gnocchi, which arrived sans gnocchi. Another had the clam and mussel linguini, complete with half a beach of sand and one mussel past its use-by date. Yet another had the piccolo maile, which consisted of crispy pork belly sans crisp, a dry-as-a-bone pork sausage and a burnt lump of pork mince. Only one member of our party rated their dish as passable - the prawns and fettuccine.

Needless to say we did not bother staying for dessert. The only nice thing I can really say is that the waitress who took our payment was friendly, although she did not ask us how the meal was. Perhaps out of experience?

“Great times!”

We did a Christmas Cooking School adventure at the resort and had a fantastic time. Not only were the chefs super friendly and knowledgeable, we also won the fight with the pasta machines, the food tasted excellent and the wine was delicious. Definately highly recommended.

“Beautiful setting - good food and great wine”

We really enjoyed our meal - our only vineyard experience this trip, and enhanced by good food, great service and a very nice surprise of freshly baked bread. A special experience!
