“Relaxing in The Hunter Valley”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2012

We had four days relaxing at Willow Tree Estate and enjoying all the Hunter Valley has to offer.
Beautiful setting, great hosts, in a quiet lane close to all the wineries and restaurants.
The rooms were tastefully decorated and impeccably clean.
Breakfast was well provided for.

We stayed here for 4 nights midweek and it was wonderful! We booked in advance but close to the travel date, had to change our plans due to a medical emergency. We wouldn't have been able to go if Raylee, (the owner), did not go out of her way to make our trip possible. She made us feel very welcome and all our requests were immediately attended to. Just to cite a couple of examples: we requested a microwave in our room so I could heat my nearly 2 year old's milk and food and we were given a brand new TV when the one in our room made a buzzing noise.

But the service did not end there. When we went to breakfast the next day, and Raylee had set out a small plastic bowl and spoon for our daughter, complete with a high chair! All this done without us having to ask. During our stay, my daughter was also invited to play on the play equipment and bike for which I am very grateful as she had a ball and kept her occupied. She was made to feel very welcome.

Breakfast each day was delicious, fresh and filling. The yoghurt is divine! :-) And even though we were the only ones staying for a couple of nights, the buffet was always plentiful.

Our room was clean, bright and airy and had a big verandah. When we woke up in the mornings we could see kangaroos hoping through the backyard and at night, we sat in the verandah and just watched the stars. It was perfect.

The quiet and stillness of the place was just what we needed.

Room Tip: If traveling with a child, the Chianti room has an extra bed with a view.

My husband and I stayed in the Summer Spa House for 3 nights in Sept 2012. The room is very spacious, extremely clean with only normal signs of usage that can happen from past careless guests. It has reverse cycle air-con which was great & heated the space quickly, no wood fire. I was pleased to find a hair dryer as I'd left mine behind. You are provided with shampoo, lotion and soap and our towels were swapped the second day. The spa is 90's style and was relaxing. The spa room was nicely appointed but some strange choices, for instance a 6 seater table for a room which sleeps a capacity of two and a very small tv situated in an odd position for the size of the room. Also the ceiling feature skylight is awesome but very light in the mornings, we are early risers so it wasn't a problem for us. The bed was comfy and the decorations very nice. The property is located close to restaurants, bars and pubs....you really need a car in the Hunter wherever you stay though. We are not social B&B types so the Summerhouse suited us as it's detached from the rest of the building. The host was un-Intrusive and helpful. Breakfast is included with rates breads, cereals, fruits and the dining area is large and clean. We enjoyed our stay, it's not 5 star however it is a beautifully looked after family run estate and I would recommend it.

Hi Jenny,

Thank you for taking the time to write a review. We appreciate your feedback. The large table is in the Summerhouse for when we have weddings and the bride gets ready with bridesmaids, hair, makeup etc. I agree about the TV size. We are currently in the proces of swapping out all the existing TVs with digital flat screens.

Thank you for your positive feeback
Regards
Raylee

I Stayed here back in late 2011 and it was one of the most relaxing and enjoyable get-aways I have had in years and to date. The surroundings are gorgeous, the rooms are beautiful and the service is friendly and welcoming. I stayed here during a particularly rough patch in my relationship and it was this place and the wonderful surroundings and environment that helped get us back on track. One morning I woke to a flock of roo's right in the paddock outside our bungalow. Simply an excellent place to stay!

I have stayed at Willow Tree twice now - once while I was in the area on business, and then the second with my wife on a holiday as the place (and the hosts!) were just so magnificent I had to come back!

What can I say about the place - it is simply the perfect place to stay on holiday - the area and the views are perfect to unwind from the stresses of your working life, and the hostesses/owners do everything to make your stay an enjoyable one. Nothing seems to be too much trouble and they make it obvious that they truly care about you as a guest and want to make your stay as memorable as possible. Raylee and her mother are some of the friendliest and most welcoming people you'll ever meet. Raylee greeted us when we arrived, remembered me from my last trip there and treated us like old friends. You couldn't ask for any more from a host.

I've stayed in one of the rooms in the main building - amazing view, room and bathroom were spotless and really appealing. Bed was comfortable, and I thought it couldn't get much better than this! When I came back with my wife, we decided to go for the Summerhouse - and wow - is there anywhere that can match this in a B&B? The photos on the website make the rooms look amazing - and yet they don't do them justice - they're even better in real life!

Raylee and her mother obviously know the area well and recommended all the best places to eat and visit - really helpful. Their knowledge of the local restaurants and wines is great. So much to see and do, my wife and I couldn't fit it all in! We'll be coming back to get to the other things we couldn't fit in this last time.

Plenty of choices for breakfast with a good spread on the buffet. However after eating so much at some of the wonderful restaurants in the area we tended to keep our breakfast light! But lots of choices in cereal, fruit and more. The coffee was welcome after one too many wines the night before ;-)

All in all, we found it a really relaxing stay, and came home refreshed and energised. Loved it there and I can see it becoming a regular getaway for us when the opportunity arises! If you're after a truly relaxing, warm, welcoming, picturesque holiday in the Hunter, then Willow Tree is the only choice.

Thanks again Raylee for a wonderful time.

There were positive things about this facility; but first impressions are lasting ones. After entering through a sliding glass door, we were in the long, stark dining room and we began announcing our arrival. We noticed dead bugs along the wall and were greeted by the mother of the owner/innkeeper. Mom is great! Super outgoing, friendly, helpful....a true pleasure. The daughter, not so much.

Three reasons we chose this particular place to stay: convenient location (centrally located), highly rated on TripAdvisor some how and they had a swimming pool. Our 12 year old LOVES the water, and we had stayed several places that had no pool. It was, therefore, very important.

On the way to our guest room, the carpets were in obvious need of attention and dead bugs on the window sill of the large window over the stairway. The room was nice and large, with an extra twin bed for our daughter. There was a cute little balcony that was overgrown with vines, to the extent that they blocked some of the views of the open land and kangaroos.

We got ready for the pool and excitedly rushed there to refresh. Sorry, they forgot to tell us that the lawn maintenance guy had just spread grass clippings over the entire pool; and it was gross looking. The mom got out a skimmer, and right away made a feeble attempt to clear the pool of debris (mom did a great job....the feeble attempt was the fault of the shear volume of grass that she had to deal with). We were there several nights, and the pool was never cleared of the grass.

Take a look at the buffet picture we added: a very small basket of whole fruit, then everything else was canned. Gross. Coffee, not good and sits too long.

In short, really lovely mom, wonderful hostess, too expensive for what you get by both Australian and US standards (we traveled in Australia almost exclusively by B&B for 20 days). Would we stay there again? Yes, after the following: improve service by owner/innkeeper, clean the pool, upgrade the breakfast menu, clean a bit more regularly and lower the rate.

Room Tip: All of the rooms look very nice. Front of the house views face the mountains and the vineyard acros...

I remember these guests. They stayed with us many months ago during summer. At all times they were very polite and seemed to enjoy their time with us with no issues. How disappointing and insulting for people to behave one way then completely attack a property on a review site. It is so unfair that establishments are not given the opportunity to address issues at the time of the stay because people don't have the confidence to speak up.

We are a B&B located in the country, in Australia in the middle of summer. We get a lot of bugs. We have the pest company in every few months to spray.... hence the bugs are dead and not flying around. We have regular cleaning staff however with guests coming in and out the many access doors and leaving them open, it can be difficult to manage.

It's unfortunate about the pool incident and we apologised at the time. The grass grows incredibly quickly here and needs to be mowed constantly. Granted the gardener was new at the time and mowed the grass in the wrong direction. We vacuumed and scooped the pool, being graciously thanked at the time for our efforts.

Our full Continental breakfast consists of plunger coffee, which did not sit too long, as breakfast is 1 hour and it is continually re-filled; a large assortment of Twining teas, assorted breads, crumpets, muffins, conserves, cereals, dried fruit, tinned fruit, fresh fruit, cheese platter, yoghurt and juices. Sorry we were unable to please you with the breakfast, however we have received nothing but positive reviews regarding our breakfast from our many other reviewers. It is very substantial for a full continental.

We believe our rates are very competitive and reasonable for this location. We continually aim to provide value for money.

We are a family run business and pride ourselves on creating a pleasant experience for our guests. When we are subject to harsh reviews with no indication that there is an issue at the time of their stay, these guests should really think hard about the negative impact they are creating.

This suited us down to the ground. There were two couples staying in a very homely place that catered.for our every need.

The hosts were accommodating and friendly.

They gave us good advice on where to eat and we were thankful to stay there.

Thank you we had a great time and would definitely stay there again.

Cheers
Anne Lynch
